This is my 87 4Runner that I bought from a friend. It was parked in the back of his truck collection - so I'm sure he isn't missing it.

Current Setup:
22RE
33" Super Swamper TSLs
Trail Gear Sliders
Spartan Locker

Setup when I bought it:

Stock motor
31" tires
no lift
no lockers
well pipe rear bumper that can rearrange a forest

Here it is when I was looking at it.

Once I got it home I replaced the windshield wiper I broke during the test wheeling session and had the radiator rodded to ensure the right amount of cooling. I really have no complaints because the motor cranks right up and purrs all day.

June 1, 2011

Sliders and tow bar connection points welded on.

Sliders are 2" DOM from Trail-Gear.com and so far they seem pretty damn stout. We will see next time we go to the trail.

Making the rims match the rest of the truck with some fresh black and yellow rattlecan paint.

Some wheeling pics from it's first trip out. Bridgeport Memorial Day 2011

When we arrived... trailered the Runner up there so incase it just shit the bed on me. For the record, my Tacoma did a really good job pulling it up there.

Out on the trail next to Taco76087's rig.

Once I get something more "build worthy" I'll update this thread. I'm waiting on some money to get tires and a locker. At this point it isn't much of a build as it is painted. Give me a little bit to raise some money or borrow my Dad's welder again and I'll have some new stuff hanging from it.

I guess those sliders will look better once you have wider tires on it. The yellow just accentuates how far they stick out. I would have pulled them back in a little bit.

Good luck with the build.

He put them out so far so that he could weld to them. He's going to do one long slider into the back bumper.

I will have alot of questions at least. I have only had this 'runner for a couple of months now so I'm still in the researching phase. I do look forward to checking out your rig in person.

I'll be glad to help anyway I can, I am not expert but I do have alot of reasearch under my belt. Once I get this parts truck off of my trailer I will have.....count them.....3 first gen 4runner in my yard. My rig looks pretty sad at the moment, I have been using it hard and putting it away dirty if you know what I mean.

I'll appreciate any and all tips you can give me. Currently I'm going through the Pirate4x4 4Runner Bible. Threre is a lot of info in there.

This is Rob being humble, good on ya buddy

Har Rob had issues with this in the past???

The seats are in! They needed a good washing; but they cleaned up pretty good. Once I get the seats redone I'll post them to the actual build post.

As for the roll bar - y'all knew it was coming. My wife sanded it down and used a whole can of yellow spray paint on it. (Why a whole can??? I have no friggin clue.... ); but it should look sharp when I drop the hard top.

Thanks, Rob, for the seats and roll bar. Now that I have the basics covered I can start focusing on the real build.

Staying with the yellow theme I see!

Looks good

Yeah, figure if I change colors now it will look like some rainbow queer magnet. I'd prefer not to do that.

Nice man.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting the soft top for it done so I can drop the hard top.

Looks good man. Your wife is spoiling you by doing all of that work on your truck. You don't have to wait around on the bikini top, it's ok to just go topless.
