Another cool episode. Look forward to more.
I will second Drew's comment about everyone carrying a side arm.

One of my favorite things about the show is that you all carry a side arm. It's a refreshing change to most of the outdoor programs on television where the real danger of the outdoors is set aside for the sake of political correctness. I wonder how many emails were sent from viewers concerned about how you disturbed that bear's habitat?
Glad to see you guys appreciate the side arms!!

We did get a little flack for the Bear scene on a couple other forums... Haters gonna Hate..

Anyway, sorry I haven't been around.... We just got done shooting EP 3!!! Hopefully it will be edited in a couple of weeks. We have a busy schedule this spring and have plans for 3 more shows. Hopefully no more lonnnng breaks between episodes for a while.

Here is a little something to keep you going till then....

Hopefully the crowd doesn't mind it too much!!!

Thanks again for your support, and don't forget to like us on Facebook if you haven't yet!!!

Garmin 60CS powering Google Earth on the laptop through pre-cached maps according to episode 2 about 7 minutes in. Great setup.

Yep, that is it. It works really good, and best of all, its FREE!!! Latley I have been using google MAPS to plan the route, because, for the most part, you can just click and drag your route to the trails you want to go on. Sometimes you will find areas that don't connect, so you have to get creative on how to make it work. Like make a stop point where the road ends, start again where GM picks the trail back up. After I get the route or section of route done, I save it to "My Places"

After It is saved to My Places, it can be exported as a KML. This file can then be imported into Google Earth. This makes it much easier to judge terrain etc. You can also trace your route over certain sections making a "Path". You can then get an "Elevation Profile" for that path. This is how I knew the one hill section in episode 2 was 30-35%.

I havent figured out how to get an elevation profile off of the imported KML file. So I have just traced it with a path if there is a section I am really concerned with grade.

Google earth has a "Cache" under tools, options. This it where it stores images for offline use.

The typical way it works, is it keeps the most recent images in google earth. So to get the data you want, you zoom in to what ever level you want, and wait for everything to load, them move up the road farther, let it load, etc. Until you have done this for your whole trip. Then I will unhook my computer from the internet, and check the whole route to make sure that it has the data I want.

There may be a way to go into the Cache file and copy the data in it to another folder, and keep track of the folders, and then put in which ever one you want for a particular area. I haven't tried or researched that.

Then you can hook your gps up via usb to your computer, and it will show you in google earth where you are.

I'm sure there are better solutions that can be paid for, but this is really cheap. You can get an old Garmin GPS with a usb port at a pawn show for like 50 bucks, then have a laptop that can run google earth, and you are set.

    Anyway, Hope that helps!!!

    Ryan

    PS
Sometimes its just nice to go out with nothing and get lost!!!!

But when shooting a show with 6 guys that have regular jobs, wives, kids, etc. Time is of the essence!!!
