    Locker Mod (simplified)

Ok so I'm not going to go into what or where the wires go and what they control. I don't feel like its needed, just trying to keep this simple for those that are not that confident in their electrical skills. I didn't see this here so thought it should be posted?

So, this is the locker anytime mod for 05-08 I cant say wether or not it will work on the later 2nd Gen Tacoma's?

The first thing you need to do is remove the glovebox to access the 4x4 ECU, if you cant achieve this step maybe you should rethink attempting this mod.

Next remove the 10mm bolt @ the glove latch and remove the black cover to access the ECU.

Now that you have done this look under the dash and you will see the (02) white connectors going to the ECU.

The connector you're going to use is the one on the top this houses all the wires you will need for this mod.

Now the following wires are to be cut and spade connectors crimped on the harness end.

    LIght Blue-
    Light green-
    Pink-
    Light green/black stripe-
    Red/Black stripe-

The following wires you DO NOT CUT BUT USE TAPS!
    Violet-
    White/black stripe-
SO you will need to make up a "y" wire and use a wire tap and connect to the violet wire.

Next make up a single piece of wire and crimp a spade connector to the end. This will use another wire tap and connect to the white with/black stripe wire.

Now that you have all the wires prepped you can can start to make your final connections to the relay.

The relay I used was purchased at radio shack and is a DPDT 10A which is more than adequate for this application.

    http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...AID=107596643#

Now here is the way you make connections to this particular relay, and this is looking at the back of the relay.

    A1-Violet - B1-Light green/black
    A2-Pink - B2-Violet
    A- Light blue - B-Light green

    Coil-red/black - Coil-White/black stripe

Ok you're done! Now all you have to do is secure the relay somewhere behind the dash. I used a zip tie and secured it to the ECU harness. Now go enjoy being able to lock up anytime!

Remember their are a lot of configurations when it comes to relays and I illustrated how to use the one mentioned above. If you have any questions on other types let me know. I also shall not be responsible if you break/burn up your truck.

Good write up; only problem is I can't find that black box on my PreRunner. Any help?

j/k good write up with pics though.
If you go off roading and you don't break something or get stuck - were you really off roading???

Nice writeup! I can vouch this works for the 09-11 Tacomas (not sure about 2012's) but the wiring is the same color and all. I did this on my 2010 a while back, great mod

I even made myself a schematic of what the heck I was doing in case I blew something up in the process , hopefully this will help others:

I used this radioshack relay, 275-218

Is the locker engaging or is what you are hearing only the relay engaging? If everything is wired up correctly make sure when you are engaging it you might need to move forward or backward slowly and turn the steering wheel a bit to allow the back wheels to move at slightly different speeds to allow the shift fork to move over.

Make sure the terminal numbers on your relay are the same as posted above. They might have changed the contact numbers.

You should be able to plug in just pins 7 and 8 (no other wires) and press your locker button and hear the relay click. That will tell you that your relay coil is connected to a good ground source and the relay is working properly.

Usually if that fuse blows the whole dash lights up like a Christmas tree, ask me how I know

See if you can ground the relay coil directly to the chassis you will get a better connection that way and try again you might have gotten a defective relay.

If you can post a picture up of the contact development I'll take a look at it for you to make sure the pole #s haven't changed. If you have a multimeter check the coil resistance as well.

This may sound dumb but have you tried moving the truck after you turned the locker on.
