Tacoma ECM vs FJ Cruiser ECM

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the ECM from a 06 Tacoma V6 is the same as the FJ V6. I purchased a used TRD supercharger from a guy that smashed up his x-runner. I am installing it on my 07 FJ. I would like to know if the ECM he gave me will work, since it is already flashed. The x-runner had a 6 speed and my FJ is an auto, if that makes a difference.

I think ECM's are different for auto's vs manuals...but I'm sure some of the other guys will be along shortly with a better answer

/\/\/\ This. If you were both auto's or both manuals it would be a different story or maybe even an auto ECU into a manual truck but the other way will definitely not work since there is no circuitry in the ECU to tell your FJ to shift

If you look up the parts in a Toyota IBP you'll find 3 ECU's, one for X-Runner, one for Auto and one for Manual. So I would say no, it will not work.

I didn't even think about the difference between manual and auto when you called before. I don't think it will work. It's not the worst thing ever to have a SC and stock ECM until you can get it flashed.

Or you could to a tranny swap while you're at it! But I doubt the wife would care too much for that.

Get the dealer to flash the ECM, it shouldn't cost much and I don't think the system will run without it.

Thanks for all the input. I figured it may be different. The cost for a toyota flash is minimal.

You can probably still sell the Xrunner ECU for a good amount. What type of SC is it; TRD roots or URD centrifugal?

no way, ecm communicates with ect and if they don't recognize each other it will set bus communication codes and all sorts of other drivability issues and then there's the immobilizer ecu will keep the injectors from firing until you get your keys reprogrammed. get the ecm flashed with the supercharger program and be done with it. Shoot!, if your in the Round Rock area Ill flash it for you for a beer or two.
I sure hope that ghetto fab (part) that I made holds.

it's a TRD unit, with a URD pulley. There were only two things missing, the pump, and the plugs. I also have a Unichip module. I was told by Aron at unichip to get the ECM flashed from Toyota and then do the tweek for the URD pulley with the Unichip. He said it will work much better.

Does it move up your plans for a SC?
