But really the practical way to make them strong is using a pre-made gusset!
Ok I gotcha now, I learned a little bit about moments and I-beams today, thanks!

Picked up a set of spare spindles a few months ago for $20. I figure the hell with gussets...I bend one, I'll just replace it.

The problem with that thought is if you do bend one slightly it may not be enough for you to see until one of your front tires gets ruined

And the "problem" with gusseting is the force will just go somewhere else an possibly break something even more vital.

I can drive home on a bent spindle; I can't on a busted UCA or LCA.

Everything has a risk, and something has to be the weakest point. Spindles are good as anything else for that purpose in the front end of these trucks IMO.

True, you need a fuse somewhere and spindles are a cheaper fuse than control arms. I plan on trying this on my truck right after I install the gusseted ones

Those are the SDHQ spindles built for the Über-FJ. Cliff (Black_mamba) is having it done to his spindles soon I believe and that'll be the true test/first actual use of them

If they hold up so some nice abuse I might throw my TC gussets out and get these instead!

Well from talking to Cliff, they are only being done in house right now, so you'd have to send your spindles to them due to the process in making them (I'm assuming). If done properly they should hold up much better then a standard gusset but the one built for the FJ has double shear mounts for the tie rods as well (not sure if it's an option or not) which would require upgrading to a heim steering.
