    Question IFS Brake conversion question

I feel like a total newb asking this....

I have been looking for brake pads for my V-6 IFS caliper and vented rotor swap.

Are the brake pads the same for the 85 calipers and the V-6 ones. From what i have read and researched, the only thing that reads different is the size of the plungers inside the caliper itself. They are either 4 of the smaller size, 2 bigger and 2 smaller or 4 of the bigger ones.

The Pirate toy knowledge base covers the swap but doesnt metion anything about the pads being interchangeable.

I just want to make sure I pick up the correct pads. While Im at it, what size is the brake line nut that screws into the top of the caliper. I need a flange wrench for that as well

Not too sure about the SA brake swap, I put V6 calipers on my 4cyl IFS truck and bought pads from the parts store for a 95 4runner (the truck that donated the calipers). They worked fine.

Thanks Rob. Im just going to pick them up and see if they work. I will see if they are interchangeable when I get them of the red truck. BTW I should have done this a long time ago. My brakes Suck!!

I think that the best thing I did for mine was a toss up between eliminating the LSVP in favor of a manually adjustable prop valve and swapping in a dual diaphram brake booster from a tacoma.

Bringing this topic back up again.

I have my pads and was doing a test fit of the pads in the calipers and then putting the rotors in the calipers.

The new pads ar a tad thicker than the old ones even though the old ones have some wear on them. I cant seem to get the rotors into the calipers with the new pads. I put the old pads back in and it was still pretty damn tight. I wiggled the rotor around a little to force any leftover fluid out of the caliper and some came out. I still cant get the rotor to fit in the caliper. I am positive that I have the correct pads rotors and calipers.

It just needs a hair or clearance to go in. Should I get my rotors resurfaced to account for tha little bit of clearance that I need?

    What would y'alls suggestion be?

Did you go with the FJ60 rotors? I did that conversion on my 4Runner (IFS calipers and FJ60 rotors) and didn't have any issues at all.

Got everything to line up. I just had to compress the pistons in the calipers a little bit with a big C-clamp. I didnt know that they would go in any more than they already were.

Crisis averted and a big DUH on my part

Yeah, I assumed that they would easily compress all the way if they weren't connected to the brake line yet. Otherwise I would have asked if they were open all the way

I am not that bright at times. It probably is my only flaw

Now If I just could figure out how to work my impact........

Mine only has a single trigger. Maybe I got hosed with an impact that will only tighten stuff up
