    Trail Spares/Trail Fixes

I went wheeling with a friend yesterday with a friend that had a ripped boot on both of his trucks - I was thinking one of these would be good for a trail spare box in case you had one crap out on the trail.

Speaking of which - I have a couple of EMPI ones for trail spares on long trips they have 1 fewer bellows than the OE but I would use them if I needed to on a multi-day trip.

I always just bring a spare cv, easy enough to change them.

I have an old (but decent) alternator belt, some of the basic fluids, and duct tape on the 4R.
If you go off roading and you don't break something or get stuck - were you really off roading???

Ok, here's a conundrum for ya. I just found that my motor mounts are cracked (I have gussets and they will be installed soon). What if they cave in on the trail before I get the gussets welded in? How would I get it off the trail.

Maybe try to use the crawler less until the gussets are in?

Weld up any existing cracks and pray

3/8" chain can get to home. One helped a lt truck that busted out a coil bucket. Used chain and a 3" ratchet strap connected with shackles.

Stress relieve it first by drilling out the end of the cracks.

There is the best answer. Drill the leading tip of the crack and then weld the crack back together.

I like this. Or burn that bitch and walk home. Joke. I would never do that. But duck tape. Ratchet straps. BIG zip ties. Chain. Shackles. And a roll of wire. Can fix just about anything enough to get to camp

This. Easier to replace the whole CV than it is to reboot 'em.

No problem (Ha!). The front skid will keep all the shit in the engine bay. I feel bad for your front driveline and tranny though. If the front driveline is wrecked enough that the diff won't turn, we'll pull the CVs and stick in those outer spuds you carry around. Then just drop everything into neutral and SLOWLY (especially if you lost all your tranny fluid when the engine fell out - gotta keep it from heating up/scoring too bad) tow/winch your ass back to camp.

    Seriously though:

    - I doubt all your motor mounts would fail at once.
    - If they did, you're awful fucked with the repairs. You'd need what? a new tranny housing, new front diff/driveshaft/possibly CVs, probably oil pain, god knows what hoses/belts/seals, possibly a new block and other engine internals...fuck that shit man. Weld them in tomorrow.
