Rear bearing doesn't get lubed without the drive gear slinging oil. My friend does it all the time. This time, he wasn't so lucky! We ended up all jumping in one FJ and did some good wheeling!

I suppose that's one advantage to a full floater rear just unlock all 4 hubs and tow away

Damn, I never thought of that. So when the t-case is in N, it won't sling oil? What about a manual tranny?

It was my motivation to do the full float. My thought is to ratchet strap the suspension and unlock all hubs and turtle to the trail.

I mean if you leave the t-case engaged, and the tranny in N if the you'd just destroy the tranny instead

I think it's the rear output that gets fucked up since it never really disengages.

Removing the front DS is free, ain't it?

Removing the front DS doesn't cause the problem.. but yes, removing the front is free.

Solve, and yeah, I misread the situation. Rear would need to come off, not the front.

Quick, coast downhill in neutral to save gas!

My only concern for using it to flat tow is that its air powered. Should an air line leak down it could reengage and cause the same problem, only with a much more $$ outcome. On the trail it would be sweet for front digs.
