So I decided to relocate the T-case vent up into my engine bay today. This was very simple and took about 10 minutes in total. After driving through some deep waters in my area, I figured this was an added benefit in addition to a snorkel and rear diff breather.
The t-case breather is shared with the t-case actuator breather and vents right on top of the transmission bell housing. While your down there you can also relocate your transmission breather which is nearby and attached to the same bracket holding it to the transmission (for the manual transmissions, it is damn near impossible without cutting a hole in the floorboard)
Here's how I did it, I got all these supplies at Lowes for under $15
Supplies:
- 2- 1/8" Barb to 1/4" MIP adapters (male iron pipe)
- 1- 1/4 FIP (female iron pipe) coupling
- 6' of 1/8" ID tube,
- Razor Knife
- Small zip ties
- Nimble hands
Here is the part we are relocating:
Ok now onto the install. Crawl under your T-case and find the vent, it's on top of the T-case, you can trace it from the back on the passenger side. It's held on via a small clip holding it to the top of the transfer case sort of routing it towards the bell housing of the tranny. pop it off this clip and I let it hang on the drivers side right by where the O2 sensor is to make it easier to work.
Cut off the stock breather, be careful not to damage it, you will be reusing it. M
ate up your adapters with the couplings, using some teflon tape to ensure water tightness.
Connect the new adapter you made up to the stock t-case vent hose, and route your new hose up in the engine bay, keep away from the headers. I added zip ties to the connections, forgot to take a picture of that though:
Route to a nice high location, I ziptied mine to the ADD and front diff vents already placed relatively high up, now I have 3 vents total up front.
Sit back and enjoy a beer
Next on the list is the fresh air inlet to the EVAP system charcoal canister
