    1984 4Runner - It runs!

    1984 4Runner Build

Ok I bought this rig because I didn't have the know how, confidence, or motivation to get the '86 running. It is a good platform to work off of but still needs a few things before it's ready to wheel.

    What it has:
    30,000 miles on rebuilt 22R
    5.29s
    4.7s
    Detroit lockers front and rear
    34x10.5x15 SS TSLs
    5" Skyjacker springs
    ProComp shocks
Extended slip drive shafts front and rear
    KC lights on front bumper
    GotPropane Conversion

    What it will have:
Marlin Crawler high steer - Ordered
    4xInnovations sliders - Ordered
Axle truss and armor - Ordered
    Trail-Gear Superflex 3" front springs - Ordered
    Trail-Gear 3" rear springs - Ordered
Bilstein 5125s all around - Ordered
Addicted Offroad front bumper - Ordered
    4xInnovations tube doors
    4xInnovations passenger length roll cage
    Lonfield Superaxles
    35-36" tires
    Beadlocks
    Rock lights
    PSC hydraulic assist steering
    Superwinch LP8500

    When I got it home

This is the only bad spot on the body. The rest is just dents and scrapes

    Interior is in decent shape

That propane Setup is on CL unless you know somebody with all the EFI stuff like your old motor.

Nice rig man. If your 4.7 case disappears, it wasn't me.

If you are taking the ifs steering box off your other Runner just take the EFI as well.

Actually I think propane will be my final decision. Being as my engine is a pre-85 22R the EFI conversion isn't as simple as it seems. It basically requires a complete tear down of the engine with a block and/or head swap. And that will put me right back to where I was on the 86. Seems there is quite a few small differences between the pre-85 and 85+ 22R blocks that cause it to be a real pain in the ass. If it was an 85+ 22R it wouldn't be a big deal. I'm going to keep looking into it but this is the way it's looking from everything I've read so far.

In the end its your ride man, do what you want with it. If the FI conversion is pita, I know the propane one really isn't too bad at all.

I just don't see any point in tearing this one down and being in the same position I was with the 86. I've found a lot of conflicting info on the EFI swap. Once I figure it out 100% I'll decide what I want to do.

Yeah and with the propane setup you can always carry a gas grill with you for trailside cookouts.

And I can fill it out of the 400 gallon tank in our back yard. My parents will never know, right?

Alright, I have to wheel this thing once before I tear it apart. Hitting up one of the local parks this weekend. If it performs better on the trail than it appears it's going to, I'll hold off on the suspension rebuild until after Jambo.

Suspension should be OK, it's the steering that you're going to need to address first the stock push pull system is just useless.

Suspension will definitely have to be redone. But I'll be cutting it close by trying to get it done by Jambo. Steering should ship out in the morning.
