    Battery Finds

There are a ton of batteries out there, please post your Battery finds here.

The POS battery in my 97 4Runner recently went belly up. In my hunt for a replacement, Diehard Platinum did not have a reverse poll battery that would fit without modifying the battery cables. Turns out Oreilly's has a house brand AGM battery for about $140.00.. AGM48 was a little smaller, but fit well in the runner. Has a 3 year warranty, and 84 month pro-rated warranty. I googled it this morning, and it appears DEKA Batteries manufactures it in the USA.

I guess I should mention that I was thinking Optima Yellow top first but.. it's $210-$220, and I ran into a ton of negative posts.. Sounds like they are made in Mexico now? I did NOT verify it, didn't want to spend $220.00 anyways.. the DieHard Platinum was $189.00, and will be what I use for the Taco when it is in need FWIW.

damn it Sean, where were you yesterday when i was searching. I couldn't find it when I was asking around, and the 4runner forums said they didn't make one..? As it turns out though, the Cheaper Oreilly AGM has a little better specs.. 120 RC vs 100.. not a big deal.

I picked up a Yellow Top new at cost $123 - haven't installed and have contemplated selling it on TW and buying a DieHard Marine.

I wouldn't trust OReillys specs and I would put my Platinum up against one any day.

Also, Platinums come in various sizes which DO have better specs. Mine has 135 RC. Not to mention 4 year full replacement and another 100 months (over 8 years) of pro-rated replacement.

I would just but anther regular Platinum. I bought a marine platinum and it has a lower warranty than the standard one, not to mention its more $$$. From what I can gather, the marine is the same battery its just they (Sears) know you are going to be taking it down to a dead state all the time and therefor they don't have the same warranty. But if I was to ever buy another one I would just get a regular Platinum. I'm actually contemplating putting my Marine Platinum in Clyde and picking up another regular (larger) Platinum for the second battery in the Taco.

Do you really think the regular Platinum will take the cycling? I will using it mostly for aux power for the Frig/Freeze

Hell I guess with their warranty, we could even replace it once a year if it dies from deep cycling.

use an AGM battery.. the Platinum DieHard 189.00 is AGM and made for the cycling, it's actually better than the Marine battery in that respect. AGM is the Ultimate for that battery use, rv camper, etc..

That 140$ Oreilly batter I Bought is AGM as well.

I plan to upgrade both my batteries to Odyssey batteries when my optimas crap out.

    http://www.odysseybattery.com/

These batteries are twice the cost of my optimas but provide a lot more power in a smaller package

I think it will... from what I read the Platinum marine and auto are the same, just different color. My Platinum marine battery is simply a Odyssey PC1500DT.

I've been running an Optima Red Top in my Supra for four years now without any issues. It is more expensive but I'd definitely recommend it. Just got a crazy deal on another one for my Tacoma

Too bad.. I've had two red tops die... about to have a 3rd die. My old 4Runner came with a RedTop and I have to keep a charger on it if I want it to start if left unattended for over a week. I'll never buy another one.
