Well I swapped the frame over to a new (to me) frame and the frame rail ends are mint on that one. I saw the fix you posted by Alvin with the angle iron and am definitely doing that upgrade before I put the ARB back on, I'm paranoid of the winch yanking out the bumper again. I was going to swing by and pick the angle iron tonight but I didn't make it so soon.... very soon
Kruso
MY ARB did the same thing... i just cut off the crumple zone and welded in 1/2 plate steel!!!
true... but im sure the bumper i have can crumple....
I thought about that long and hard... I have yet to fix it but when I do, I am only going to make it slightly stronger than stock... I would rather lose the bumper and not the frame at this time!!! - Plus I have a new trail rig to take the brunt of my wheeling...![]()

before I putting my bumper, I made these reinforcements(just to prevent that problem)
I've considered this problem for the bumper I'm making and plan to run a 1" wide x 1/4" thick x however long strip (haven't measured) from the side plate next to the upper bolts you see here:
and bolting it to the first hole you see in the frame behind the crumple zone you see here:
It will serve as a metal limiting strap. When pulled on, like under winch stress, it will be extremely strong (like one would expect of a strap) and prevent that thin plate from having to deal with all the strain. When pushed on, like a front end collision, it will just buckle (also like a strap) and allow the crumple zone to do its job. I got the idea off a 2nd gen ARB bumper I saw.
I plan on making that piece next time I'm in the shop. I'll put up some pics.
Yep, that's the ticket.
