    Hardwiring Cell Charger

I'm ordering a dock for my Atrix to mount it on the dash. Basically the same as what Anathallo has. I'm going to hardwire the charger on it so I don't have to run the wire to the 12v plug down by my shifter. I know I'm going to have to put a regulator in the line. My question is my charger says output is 5.1v but my battery is 4.7v, will a 5v regulator work or is it important that it be 5.1v?

yes, higher voltage can damage circuits

Why don't you just buy the 12v adapter and plug that into a cig lighter plug? You can put the 12v adapter under the dash and plug it in and call it good.

The cable I'm going to use isn't long enough for that. I'm just going to wire in another 12v plug under the dash by my steering wheel out of sight and plug it into that.

If you look online, you can order a 6' mini USB cable for next to nothing. Cables are really cheap online.

And the only problem I have with that mount on my dash, is that it gets really hot really fast. Try to mount it out of the sun. The hotter your phone gets, the more likely it'll shut itself off. I've found mine likes to turn off right whenever its telling me an important turn on a highway somewhere

Mine phone is just to the right of the HVAC controls, works great. Doesn't get too hot. Easily seen and operated.

I actually like your velcro idea as far as location goes. I just don't like that you have to keep the other part on the case of the phone the whole time.

Yeah I'd mount mine down below, but I don't want to give up a cupholder and I use the cubby in the back for a ton of stuff. So that's why I have that mount. I actually only use it on long trips. I usually just plug my phone in and leave it on my lap, so I can access it easier.

I think I'm going to slap a "presidential solution" on my dock to make it fit where I want it to. Have to wait until it gets here though to see if it will work.

its just on the otter case, but the location is pretty good except for having to look down for gps.

I have found zero places to put my 12v plug I'm adding. There is NO room under the first gen dash.
