Well I went to Vatozone and got my battery and alternator tested. My battery is fine, but the voltage sensor inside the alternator is shot, so I ordered a refurbished one with a lifetime warranty as well as a new serpentine belt. Getting all the parts in at 10:30am and I'll pick them up once I get out of class. It was $206 total. There goes the funds for a road bike.
I'll get it all done tomorrow. It's not too bad. I'm gonna run and grab my buddy's DeWalt cordless impact, which makes it a lot easier maneuvering inside the engine compartment.

I got the old alternator out and the new one bolted in and wired up. I just need to put the serpentine belt back on and start her up. Thank God for how much room that flexalite fan gives me. If I were to do this with the stock fan, I probably would've had to pull it all out just to get the alternator out. The old alternator is definitely shot. It squeals when you turn the pulley.

Total time took me 2.5-3 hours and that was with lunch. Super easy install. And it was definitely time for a new serpentine belt. I would not wait till 100k.

Well went out to get some Landshark and on the way my voltage kept dropping like before with the old alternator, so its got to be the damn battery. Tested the output from the alt on the actual alt and its a steady 13.6V.
So....tom I'm going to a actual alternator repair shop and getting a second opinion on my old one and I'm taking a battery out of my stepdads diesel and seeing if it does the same with mine.

Also, all this STILL happens even when I have my system, fan, lights, and A/C off. I'm turning everything that I know that draws power off and it doesn't matter.

The battery might have taken a shit trying to keep up with everything while the alternator was going bad.

So I went to an alternator shop today and got my old one tested. Its definitely bad.

Well now my "new" battery barely holds above 12v. When I started the truck this morning it barely had enough juice to start it. So I went to vatozone and the guy won't replace it because it still had a charge. I tried calmly explaining to him that last week it held a 13.6V charge and within a week its lost more than a volt. But no dice. So basically its gotta fully die before they'll replace it. I'm thinking about leaving stuff hooked up to it when I'm at my house to keep draining it, so the cell will go bad quicker.

I'm going to drain it this weekend if I have nothing to do. I can't do it during the week because of school.
