Have I said enough? Okay, J/K... but I live in the Communist Republic of California and have to deal with the F'd up CARB gas cans. Although I am tempted to just get old cans, I am afraid that I am going to be disappointed when some CA ranger or equivalent tells me that I can not enter their land - okay call me paranoid. I currently have one of the Scepter (cheap red) cans like this: Although I use a PVC butt joint to keep from having to push the can (and add another dent when the first one was created by this POS!). The nicest part of this mod is that it stays on even when I store it back in the can! On top of that they have a cheap ass seal that broke within the first couple of months of owning this piece of crap. Tonight I am getting ready for a 3 day trip to do the entire length of the Mojave Road with a group of 4Runner guys and think I have found a decent solution for the shitty gasket - I picked up 1 5/16 1/8 wall o-rings and used them instead. :end rant: Now for the right 'next move'. I'd like to get 2 of these Wedco cans for gas and 1 for water... While on a Bill Burke trip, he highly recommended using a siphon for fueling and it's not a bad way to refuel and once again, doesn't dent the side of your truck! Any thoughts?
Here's what he uses - they're great and you don't get any gas in your mouth!!! http://www.amazon.com/Super-Siphon-supersiphonhose-Hose/dp/B000ZOT39A Any opinions on these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280560976398&rvr_id=138924190424&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=%3F*S%3F&GUID=cb89a43612a0a06c1b52ec72ff3d70cf&itemid=280560976398$&ff4=263602_263622#ht_500wt_1154
Those look better than most plastic cans. I like my green metal ones just fine. Metal ones can be kinda expensive though.
I have two of these Blitz metal can's.. they are a BITCH to refuel with. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200376069_200376069 The CARB compliant spout is a real PITA! I haven't dented the truck using it, but I have rubbed red paint on it as it slipped out of my hands. Its definitely a 2 man operation. Then you better make sure the nozzle is on REALLY tight because both mine will leak a small bit (enough to make you smell like gas all day). Aside from that its a strong can and has held up well. I also love the idea of the Super Siphon, I've been meaning to get one. But I never even thought about using it to pull fuel from a gas can and into the truck. So now that I'll have a real use for it, its on order, thanks for the link. I picked up 3 Scepters water cans for under $50 from LC Industries. Only downside to being plastic, is that if they are not tied in and they bounce... the caps can come off. So just make sure they are tied in good. (something I didn't do one time) IMO the Wedco's are the way to go. I like the latching mechanism on them, it appears to be very well thought out. Also the CARB spout looks to be easier to use (sorta moot point with the super siphon... but.)
Ordered. I haven't had to use my cans yet, but I'd like to be prepared. Plus I can use the siphon to steal gas from my neighbors
Has anyone tried these gas cans? http://www.hummerhub.com/store/product.php?productid=16551&cat=109&page=1 Now I feel stupid since these are in the original post. I should have looked a little closer
Super Siphon arrived today.. its bigger than I thought it would be. Not sure what I was thinking. Shown with an iPod for size comparison.
I will be using one this weekend if I ever get out of this place! 3 days of Mojave Road - should be fun!
