yea they use "access" for the fire and police dept as a excuse. Our police have freaking tanks and fire dept has ladder trucks so I know it's total BS + commercial land can do huge fencing

IMHO they just want the sheep up here to be under their thumb and unprotected

    My towns BS rules....

I got a rubber stamp on a set of plans just so I could move my 6' tall "rear" fence to the front of my house. Technically it is in a grey area I guess because it is in front but extends to the side not the front near the street and I'm on a court. IDK, btu back when I read the codes I thought I may need back up via paperwork so I did it. Rather be safe than sorry + now it's on the record at the town hall.

Ive even thought of building my lot up 1' higher so I can really block views. Think 17 houses can see into my backyard in certain spots. another 1' of fence would take that to zero

Extended three more poles for my friend. This time, I left my welding magnet at home so that made this a little more difficult than last time. I did however bring my post level since last time I learned he doesn’t have one. I then discovered that that doesn’t matter because if I made the extensions level, they didn’t necessarily look straight. Oh well, at least the poles are on the inside of the fence lol

Gotta decide if you want to level them with the earth or make them straight with the existing poles lol. When I put the shelves in my garage I had to decide if I wanted them level or if I wanted them to be parallel with the roofline. I went with the roof line. Looks better consider there's nothing under them to show that they're not actually level. They only dropped about 1"-1.25" over 12'. Would have been pretty obvious if they weren't parallel with the roof line seeing as they're up high. Also, whoever added the garage onto my house needs to be shot.

I’ve had the same dilemma when putting up shelves before too. If it’s not holding liquid, I usually make the shelf level with the room so it looks right

    lol

Same stuff I deal with daily for work. We usually follow the walls and it makes our job much more difficult. All of our products are plumb and square so they accentuate walls being out. gap at the top is 1/8" and then 3/4" at the sill = unhappy customers that blame me - until I put my laser up and show them that the wall being out of square is the real issue, not my glass

In the future, for shelving at least, please make it level. It's can be a safety issue where someone puts an object that can roll onto your unlevel shelves and it rolls off. I know it looks goofy but you'll soon get used to it and not notice after awhile.

But I get making it to where it will look level with the room. I do the same for trim, floor base or aesthetic stuff that isn't a safety or functional concern (doors or windows).

I never thought about that - good thing I don't install shelves for a living lol

I had a buddy have a exacto knife roll off the top shelf of his closet and land directly in his eye. he lost vision in it and it looks all screwy now.

I thought about that but it's no concern for this shelving. Nothing being placed on it can roll and it's wire shelving so even if something could roll, it would more than likely sit between two of the wires unless it had a pretty big diameter.

I wish. I remember when my dad installed just a typical 3 strand barbed wire on some 12" standoffs on top of our 6' chain link fence down the marina to keep vagrants off the boats in winter and theives out of the yard. Back then they woudl steal outdrives - especially Volvo Penta Duel Props drives + They would break in and turn boats into apartments and trash the boats we had in storage while living in them. Back then there was a crew going around in john boats at night unscrewing merc outdrives to steal them and as soon as they took them the boats would fill with water and sink. Only issues there was they were tied to our docks so they would also bring them down. Total cluster f*c

For the barbed wire - he just put it up and caught flack. First it was he needed a permit or some crap. Then he got that and it was facing the wrong direction keeping people out so he moved it to face inwards, then it was trapping people inside so he just said screw it and removed it. if I am remembering it right - that was 30-35 years ago lol

Inthe end we had to leave everything wide open because everyone needs free access to waterways in NJ. We had to literally allow fishermen on our docks to fish and we were a private LLC with corporate license and insurance. The theft was never ending after that lib crap

Never worried about it. The extent of my shelf building is usually for books, pictures, or airplane models cause I’m a nerd. I see your point though

Thanks, but I’m not as into them now as I used to be. I recently took down a shelf and put a dozen of them back in their original boxes.

We always joked that anyone that made it through the rows and rows of c wire we had around the compound would deserve a medal. Then get shot.
