Frying Alternators

Ok guys. So I have now been through two alternators in a month n' a half. apparently they don't really like mud and water. . But I have read of people putting marine alternators on instead of automotive alts. I was just kind of wondering if anyone knew how you would go about this on an 01' taco.

Best advice is to stay out of the mud even if the mud doest kill the generator the finer grit will kill the bearings in short order

That's what they keep telling me. its just that temptation kills me. I might just stick with the rocks from now on though..
