Well, Ill start by telling the back ground of the truck. I bought the truck off my boss for $200 with 198K miles. He told me that it wouldn't turn over. He told me it was a distributor coil. HA!! it was the timing belt, and the whole timing belt system. Made my way to Autozone picked up the timing belt kit and timing belt, got the truck running for $148 + a case of Coors Light for my uncle to install the timing belt and the kit while I was working 64 and 56 hour weeks. Now I am into the truck for $348 and a case of beer. Drive the truck to my house from my uncles, and realize the speedo doesn't work. Get the truck into the air :fork: and trace the speedo cable to the tranny and realize that the cable itself was pulled out and needed to be replaced. Start following the cable up to the firewall and notice that it is rusted out and cracked and so now the speedometer cable housing needs to be replaced to have speed. Get a brand new speedo housing threw my dads shop for $82.50, get it installed in a matter of 2 hours, because I have never had to do one before. Truck runs great now, and I am $430.50. This is going to be a DD weekend warrior. I plan on being MOAB ready.

Plans for the truck-

Engine- 7mge AFM, custom ISR/safari snorkel, PnP/build up heads, larger injectors, piggy back A/F tuner (if needed), headers, and exhaust.

Interior- rhino lining the floors, 4 point harness, bucket seats, roll cage, new sound system.

Exterior- ARB front bumper, winch, bar rear bumper, body armor, roll bar/ light rail, modification to fenders, jeep door mod/bar doors for summer.

Suspension/undercarriage/axles - rear locker, IFS long travel, reservoir shocks (upon long travel), 4.88 gearing, axle armor, upgraded CV axles and joints, scrap plates- front axle and tranny. <--- to be updated as education builds

Current mods-
15x8 American Racing steelies, 33x12.5 BFG A/T KO, Intake Silencer Removal mod.

Waiting mods-
Ball Joint Spacers, 2" AAL rear.

Please if you have thoughts, comments, or ideas, I am open to hear them out. This is my 2nd toyota truck I have owned. But, 1st that I want to modify this much. This is the first vehicle that is older then 1995 and am learning about the whole system of AFM's and this old of ECU's.

My new wheels!! 15x8 6 lug 5.5 stud. 5 wheels for $90 bucks. $17 to clean up, remove minor rust from oxidation of the metal at rock chip points, and repaint to close off that oxidation point of the wheels.

IMAG0410.jpg

After getting them I ran a rust removal gel on the wheels, did a WD40 layer after then had dried from the gel and rinse. After allowing them to sit for a day with the WD40 on them I put 3 layers of Car paint/clear coat on the back side and 4 layers on the front side. after letting them dry for 24 hours I went and got 33x12.5xr15 BFG All Terrians KO mounted.

latest mod that I got done was the ISR mod, I have to get a photo of the mod at final finish of today. But, it does make a difference. It is running a lot better up hills, can really tell that the straight piping is in there when I am idling at a stop sign or light.

Best way to get articulation out of that torson bar front end is to cut it off..lol

Interesting cgoice of engine for when the 3.0 self destruct, i would think the torque band on those would make the 7mge terrible offroad

well the engine has 198k on it. Never been rebuilt, hasn't blown a head gasket from my knowledge, and doesn't have the #6cyl compression problem, with the stock headers.
The only thing I think that might be wrong with the engine is that the shims might be worn down. I will find out when I get around to doing the 1mm valve overbore, while at it I will be replacing the head gasket with the metal aftermarket gasket. and the 7mge reference is just to use the AFM off of. The 7mge AFM is roughly 3 inches bigger and uses a cone filter at stock so I will be able to pull in more air with the larger AFM and cone filter along with the 3" intake piping I have on there right now.

very true.
But, I am not wanting to go with a SAS front at this moment in time being that this is a DD that will see freeway speeds. Plus I enjoy going through the off-road trails at faster speeds then what the SAS could do.
But, after this truck is no longer my DD and is just my TOY then I will be going with the SAS. If im not already at Long Travel.

Ah so your just going to use the intake off the 7mge, still seems like a lot of work to polish up a 3.slow for the amount of time/effort/money you could likely swap a small block

The IFS in the older trucks really isn't worth messing with IMO without lots of reworking and custom parts they bend/break idler arms, tie rods, and center links quite a frequently. Unless you go long travel and play with the shock valving/torsion spring rates the SAS trucks ride and handle about the same as the IFS does.

Ya. But, switching out the AFM is a 10 min job, tighten the inner spring 6 clicks and good to go. With the head rebuild, if it isn't going to set me back a bunch my engine rebuilder is great. But, problem with engine swap is limited income currently, and finding doner truck in utah for cheap is difficult.

and I plan on going with Blazeland Long Travel. I may live in Utah, but little do I extreme rock crawl. I can have a better ride quality and handling with staying IFS then I would with a SAS. plus it will be cheaper going with the blazeland LT then it would SAS. With having to get the solid front, regear it, lock it, weld in spring mounts, and get the lift kit, where as get the blazeland LT, install LT shocks, and T100 CV and be off having fun, cause I will already have it regeared by the time I get a LT.

But, I can totally see the functionality of a SAS in the future if I decide to get into more crawling before I go with a LT.

Blazeland is an excellent choice. I loved mine the one time I wheeled it, lol... :(

Oh it did great!
