Looks like that battery I have took a decent charge Blake. I think it will be good enough to try and crank the motor.

Well, you got that motor pulled yet?

Just about. We worked on it from 5-8 this morning. We have two bolts left in the transmission before we can pull it.

Cool, the ones up on top I'm guessing? I know they are a pita

Yeah we were trying it without pulling the crossmember. We had to leave at 8:30 to go to a family breakfast. I'm about to go unbolt the crossmember and lower the transmission a bit to see if it adds some clearance. Pirate says that's the trick.

And it's a good thing Toyotas last forever and you don't have to work on them because you have to put your vehicle on jackstands to change the damn starter and tear half the engine apart to chance the freakin alternator.

So apparently you have to remove the whole intake manifold to disconnect the wiring harness. What kind of bullshit is that?

The Japanese are small, they can get there little monkey hands up in there and reach those no problem.

No way they can for the starter. It's not accessible from the top. It may be accessible from the bottom on the solid axle ones but on the IFS ones there's a UCA, diff bracket, and all kinds of other shit in the way. You have to pull the passenger side tire.

Yep, the new ons are no better...lol

What are the chances I can just unplug the wiring harness from the ECU and pull it out through the firewall into the engine bay?

AlienXtx

Nignog
How big a hole you cut.

balakay

BabyMax
It's run through about a 4" hole in the firewall. Just not sure what's between that hole and the ECU...

Should go straight to the passenger side kick panel IIRC.

Yeah reading on Yotatech has told me that if I disconnect the three plugs in the ECU I should be able to just pull it out with the engine. I already have it disconnected from everything else it has to be disconnected from.

I was going to recommend you go this route, but I assumed you had already thought of it, lol Guess that's what happens when you assume

Well I thought of it but wasn't sure where the ECU was located. I didn't read anything before we started to pull it. Just went in blind.

I recomend you pull the upper intake to disconnect the injectors and leave the harness in the truck. Considering that its a 25 year old harness its it is going to be brittle and you dont want to disturb it more than you have to.
