Scribed to this one, I'm sure it not hard, just a matter of finding the right wire and jumping it. My wife's 02 4runner does the same shit..

You may know how my brain works but when I was reading your post I kept thinking, hell, I've never found a special wire before I went jumping in my truck! :)

After some more looking this appears to work for all 01-02 model 4Runners and Tacomas. 99-00 have a different module and thus a separate process. Not sure about pre-99 and 03-04.

I'm pretty sure that if I tried to jump anything like that in my wife's truck I would live to hear about it.

well here is what i figured out

1. its fucking raining so now i am soaked
2. the module is not under the hood next to the battery so i got soaked for no reason
3. it is right above the gas pedal behind the e brake
4. new project soon
5. at least there will be some mud i can play in after work tomorrow

The module is only in the engine bay for 99-00 models. 01+ has it by the e-brake. That first link I posted has the procedure for disabling the DRL on 01-02 4Runners and Tacomas.

I cut mine a while back and its been fine, just make sure you cut the correct wire cause those DRL units are expensive
