Enough to cover buying a 2wd yota with the 3RZ in it.

You'll want to put an R series tranny behind it anyway right? I just read about using the 2TR-FE bell housing to bolt an R Series transmission behind the 3RZ-FE

I can't say I've done enough homework to know!!! lol I do have a 5 speed that I haven't even looked at (it was one of the spares that came with the truck. I doubt it's an R though.

Doing a search on car-parts.com for an 8.4 - I don't care about gear ratio or if it has LSD or not (I'm going to put an ARB in it). Does anyone know which one of these puppies will have an 8.4? TIA

4x2, Pre Runner, diff lock (3.727 ratio)
4x2, exc. X Runner and Pre Runner; 3.307 ratio (MT)
4x2, exc. X Runner and Pre Runner; 3.583 ratio (AT)
4x4, diff lock (3.727 ratio)
4x2, X Runner (3.153 ratio), LSD/posi
4x2, X Runner (3.153 ratio), w/o LSD/posi
4x2, Pre Runner, w/o diff lock; (non-locking, posi), 3.307 ratio (MT)
4x2, Pre Runner, w/o diff lock; (non-locking, posi), 3.583 ratio (AT)
4x2, Pre Runner, w/o diff lock; (non-locking, posi), 3.727 ratio
4x2, Pre Runner, w/o diff lock; (non-locking, posi), 4.10 ratio
4x4, w/o diff lock; (non-locking, posi), 3.727 ratio
4x4, w/o diff lock; (non-locking, posi), 4.10 ratio

I just want my truck to wear a girdle!!! :D

All non TRD tacomas have an 8.4 with exception to the mini trucks they had a 7.5. Other places to source a diff would be all T100s and pre 07 tundras. I bolded the only two that won't have an 8.4 if you hunt around you can find factory 4.56 gear sets.

You are a good man! But aren't the T100's and pre 07 Tundys a different width? I'm thinkin' an ABS Taco or a taco that I could just put the ABS spacer on from my existing setup.

Are you looking for a diff or an axle?

Well if I were doing it I would swap in a T100 or non ABS tundra axle (I don't care for ABS and see no reason to keep it) the widths are different but very close to the same. But I'm guessing you want all the dash lights to play nice so bassically any 05+ non mini truck/non TRD offroad will have the axle you're looking for. Some mini trucks may also have the axle if they had the 4.0 V6 but the axle will be in a spring under config.

I know where one is, it's in VA and was posted in TW's BST section. Good luck finding it.

Cool - cool. I have ABS and as much as I have not drank the cool aid, but ATRAC is a very nice, 'get home' option in the case of a failed air line while in muck or a failed compressor and empty co2 tank. That's all. :)

Same width, but T-100s have an ABS sensor on the diff, so it's not compatible with your ABS system. Any 2005+ Taco that is 4x4 or Pre-Runner will do it for you. Otherwise, you'll have to re-weld the spring perches and/ or give up ABS
