Back to diffs...

So, I've been looking around for a late model housing for a 8.4. The cheapest I've been able to find is $400. I will probably pick that one up. I go see it later this week to check to see if it's straight.

I still think about the Rock Assault housing option. IR correctly the with of the housing in my 09 is 59 3/8" (ABS sensor housing gets attached and makes it wider). The Taco housing is 61 3/4" the IFS housing is 59". My thoughts are to make some 3/16" spacers....

OH SHIT WHAT AM I THINKING!!!! The 8.4 won't fit in there will it! :(.

Currie Rockjock 60 - $3700 from our favorite place... with an ARB. Sell your old locker and housing to offset the cost a bit.

OR.. go talk to Trail Gear.. see if they will make you a housing? You can be the prototype!

Do it. 8.4 will be great for you. No reason to put a $3500 rear axle in an expo truck and the 8.4 will keep the value of your truck up as apposed to a non-Tacoma axle

Yes they do as I posted but it won't fit the 8.4 third. :(

For sure? Not sure why they would list a tacoma rear and tacoma elocker rear if one wasn't for the 8.4

It's likely all the same housing just different WMS measurments, one for the e-locker and one for the standard 8" 4cyl or V6

Good point, and I actually read the description and it says it uses 86-95 diffs so that makes sense seeing as they didn't produce the "Tacoma" till 1995.5

I can haz knowledge?

So are the 8.4" diffs that much stronger than the 8" diffs? Im just thinking if it would be worth it to swap in a tundra rear end or not. After I got the wheel spacers on the rear of the 4runner the front width over the rear width doesn't bother me. And im debating if it is worth getting the 8.4 tundra rear end instead of just sticking w the stock one I have now and building it instead. I plan to supercharge the runner someday and also a double gear box for low-low if that makes a difference.

Yea all I'm thinking is that I really need to Regear soon and get a locker back there. And I don't want to drop $1500 on something I'm just going to have to replace in a yr or two. Mainly don't want to truss/custom link/gear and then find out that it was all for nothing and then have to swap it all out for the 8.4 and then built that axle. I'm just trying to save some cash by not swapping in the tundra rear axle at all.
