Ok, so I am about to pull the trigger on a new set of tires (BFG AT's are burning up) and I have narrowed my choices down to the Goodyear Duratrac and the Goodyear MT/R Kevlar. (Cause they are on sale till the end of April)

I'm looking at running a 285/70/17, and grabbing 5 tires all at once so that I have a full matching set.

Mainly I'm running on rock, mud and hard packed trails. There is also snow up here so that needs to be factored in. Now that I am walking to work the truck sits during the week and then plays on the weekends, so lots of city/street driving doesn't really have to factor in.

Just wondering if any of you have run either tire, or know some of the pro's/con's to either.

Sale is on till the end of April so I will be getting them before then.

My Cooper STTs were better than my Kevlars in snow, but the Kevlars outperform the Coopers on the road/mud/rock/pack/etc.

If you want something that will dominate all those terrains and be taller than everyone else without having to cut your body mounts, go with a 255/85/16

It's just taller than 33" (most other 33s are just shy of it). It won't rub the UCA or the cab mount, and your traction will be amazing!

Tall and skinny will cut through the snow like butter and give you traction on the terrain underneath.

Yeah I would love to go with a 16 inch rim, but I already have 5 17's so I will most likely be going that route (unless the set of 15 inch rims I have on my GMC K10 fit the Tacoma)

I have no issues cutting the body mount, and I am already running spacer and done some other minor fender work to stop the rubbing. The number of snow runs that we will be doing will be about half of the spring summer runs so pizza cutters aren't really high on the list.

I'm leaning towards the MT/R cause I have had issues before where I managed to wedge a chunk of wood into the sidewall and rim, and I have heard that the Duratracs have a pretty soft sidewall.

I have had very good luck with my goodyears, on everything but Ice.

well to be honest up here in the deep snow running a wider tire aired down allows us to float, might not have the best traction but it keeps the guys from getting bogged down.

I also try and stay out of the mud and water due to the wonderful wheel bearing issues... its more the rock crawling and packed trails I look for, and as we all know mud is unavoidable

you have posted it before, and I'm not buying it. Next you will be posting some bs wiki link to the same shit, if you feel thats the best combo for you then have at it.

O.P. go with the MT-Rs in the size your running now and you wont have any problems at all, they are badass tires and thats a damn good size to run on our trucks. My next set will be a set of them.

So then why are all the comp tires only available in wider sizes 12.50 being the smallest I've seen with 35 being the smallest diameter I've seen
