skinny tires will net you more mpgs because of less rolling mass but because of that same thing they dont work has well off road. a taller tire will get you up and over stuff easier because you have more surface up and down the tire that makes contact with the surface your trying to climb, so if you add width to that hight you will double the climbing capability

Yeah I would love to go with a 16 inch rim, but I already have 5 17's so I will most likely be going that route (unless the set of 15 inch rims I have on my GMC K10 fit the Tacoma)

I have no issues cutting the body mount, and I am already running spacer and done some other minor fender work to stop the rubbing. The number of snow runs that we will be doing will be about half of the spring summer runs so pizza cutters aren't really high on the list.

I'm leaning towards the MT/R cause I have had issues before where I managed to wedge a chunk of wood into the sidewall and rim, and I have heard that the Duratracs have a pretty soft sidewall.

Duratracs are great in the snow and they are rated as a snow tire. I have had zero issues with my sidewalls, but I am also not rock crawling. LT or C rated have 2 ply sidewalls. E load has 3 ply. I aired down this weekend (Sat) and just aired back up today. Been driving all over with 20psi and I can tell you the sidewalls are stiff on the Duratracs (I know it's dangerous and stupid, but it was raining and I might of melted).

I can't speak of the MT/R's from personal experience but from the research I have done most say MT's suck in snow. That said I know they will outperform my Duratracs in most conditions, just doubt snow is one of them or the highway for that matter.

Rich knows how they handle in the snow even though I'm sure he wants to put that cold white stuff behind him........he was with me on this run.....VVVVV

Thanks for the info Oswego, yeah I know the MT/R's would suck in the snow but based upon me running all winter with 3/4 gone BFG AT's I learned how to handle the slush and ice.

I got quoted $376 per tire for the MT/R's (mounted, balanced installed) so a nice price of $2,099.... yeah it will be an investment.

I will probably go on Friday and get pricing on the Duratracs.

I also found out that the rims on my GMC (15x10's) won't fit on my Tacoma so the cheap option is out.

The $2,099 is CDN. The US and CDN dollar are pretty much on par so the prices are very comparable.

The Goodyears run big.....a 285/70/17 is a 33.5x11.50 on the money.

I havn't had them in snow, but they are fucking amazing in rocks and the slick ass clay we have around here. I'll usually drop them to 15psi and they bite, plus they are wearing great.
