Fred you look a little different... can't quite put my finger on it...

It's the flippers. I don't normally wear them when I'm out of the water!

A while back, with the advent of satellites and what not, they discovered the monument is not even in the right place. I can't remember the distance but I think its off by quite a bit.

I was thinking about that when the first pic was up... That's like the hts of peaks have 'changed' too. I have a friend that is a surveyor back east and he talks about the rock monuments that have 'moved!!!' :D

I think its far enough off that the entire monument is in one state.

They probably new it all along! :D There is probably a tiny plaque behind the restroom door that says "The placement of the 'monument' is a recreation and is not meant to be accurate!"

Just looked it up. I guess there's still some controversy as to how far it is off. In relation to the Greenwich Meridian, its about 2.5 miles off. In relation to the Washington Meridian, its only off by 1,807 feet (which they claim was amazingly accurate for the surveying equipment that was used to distinguish the point like 100 years ago).

Either way, its at least a quarter mile off.

1000 foot is pretty good for something like that using a transit and chain, especially considering old deed descriptions usually call for distances in terms of revolutions of a wagon wheel and the amount of time it took the surveyor to smoke a cigarette while on riding a horse

Damn good! :D and 15 minutes to get a burger used to be good too! :) Damn microwave culture expects 0.000001 inch accuracy! :) I can hear our kids now! "You are wavelengths off!" :D

Graham, who a few of you met on the last trip, has been shopping for a buggy. He found a sweet jimmys4x4 four seater that was built quite nicely on ebay. The bid ended in the middle of the night so he had esnipe auto bidding. Somehow the system glitched and it never upped the bid in the last seconds. Some dude who bid several days earlier got a ridiculous price on the win. Graham was damn near ill. Maybe it wasn't meant to be. Oh well. Good luck to him next time.

Anyway, if he does get one, you'll be able to go for some sweet rides while on this trip.

Cool! I mention it to the boy scout of mine and he wanted to do this more than going with the scouts. I know when Sam was telling me I have to go, we where leaving Mr E with gran-pa but now they both want to go so no problem right. cool!

As long as they chip in for the strippers.

Last year was a family friendly event. I assume this year will be the same. I imagine the worst thing your kid will witness is a few beers being enjoyed around the campfire and perhaps an occasional overheard curse word.

Yeah, no one will be taking a dump on the campfire until it's WAY past their bed time, lol
