Are you locked front and rear? I'm just locked in back but i'm running atrac up front. It's not as effective as a true locker but it works amazingly well in this terrain. Easily 80% as good here.

It's too bad andrew had the mechanical issues last year in what was otherwise a very capable rig.

Ok. The majority of our terrain is frame twisty. You'll get a lot of tires up in the air which will obviously disable the front open axle. Some spots are down right tippy. It's neat to have a spotter pulling a corner of your truck back down to earth.

Don't worry. It will be fine. My truck is a daily driver too. I'm not taking you anywhere destructive. Just get excited and have fun. Colorado isn't particularly difficult but it's just so damn cool and pretty you won't care.

what happened?

A combination of the top plate spacer with the RCD lift, and having my LR UCAs adjusted too far out meant my Driver side CV wouldn't stay seated and was bleeding strawberry milkshake diff fluid all over the place. It never got that low, just wouldn't stay full. I was worried about stripping something out since splines weren't seated all the way

It probably would have been fine wheeling it just as hard as normal, but I had never had that happen before and was scared to break anything so far from home.
Also wise. I would be gun shy that far from home too. Hell, i'm gun shy 10 minutes from my house. I'm out there in a $32,000 daily driver.

Yeah, having a rig that you could easily replace for a couple grand makes wheeling a whole lot more fun IMHO

Yeah, that's in my long term plans but being on a fixed budget means that can take some time. Years even. I look forward to retiring my truck to an extremely capable, road trip worthy, hunting, winter roads rig in order to beat the piss out of a toy.

keep it to hanguns or bring some real heat?

Bring anything you want and a few boxes of ammo. There are about 90 million places we can pull off the road and pop off a few rounds. Bring ear plugs too.

From a defense standpoint, as always, the two legged snake is the greatest danger but we have plenty of black bear and mountain lion too.

well those 7.62X39 will tear that shit up out of something. Plus I have the scope on at like 100 yards anyways so I can empty a clip into something running at as easily enough and anything in close quarters will be fucked

I just called a jeep rental place in silverton to get a trail update. He said Black Bear is still closed but that they're plowing the snow in an effort to get it open this weekend. Poughkeepsie Gulch is closed again and the don't plow it.

Hopefully they get black bear done. I know it's a favorite. If not, there is plenty of other places i can take you.

We'll chat when we're all together and make some decisions. I'm glad we're a small group and packed to be on the fly. Who knows where we'll end up. Rest assured though. I know good stuff just about everywhere.

Jason mentioned maybe wanting to hit some hot springs. Bring swim suits. Unless of course you'd like to hit orvis hot springs. It's a favorite of my wife and me. Clothing optional. Rock whatcha got. Suits are allowed there but you'd be in the minority if you're wearing one.
