Our new truck just got back from getting lettered up.

Pretty cool set up for the glass racks and bed.

Not a fan of the gas engine, but the boss wants gas because we have too many morons who work here that would put normal gas in a diesel engine then blow it up. We would both prefer to hire smart people so we could get the best tools, but alas...... common sense is not common and no ones covering a blown diesel engine under warranty when you put gas in it so I kinda understand.

My "manager" just came in and told me he got kicked off a 300k school job when the GC and all his subs got the boot, is not allowed back onsite to get our tools, and another glass company is onsite today fixing his mistakes. I assume a new GC has been given the job. As he is saying this our warehouse manager comes up to tell him a huge delivery of BR windows just came in. He then tells me they are for that school. lol

His question to me was what to do and how to handle it. No one but me knows at this point. I told him to list every major event on the job and to go fall on the sword with the boss man immediately. Every question I asked him - he had piss poor answers to and has no leg to stand on. This is exactly what happens when you are reactive vs proactive. He told me he had heard rumors for months that the GC was going to get the boot but he never did anything. Now another sub is onsite and it's too late. He should of spoken the the schools superintendent when he heard the rumors and insured when the GC got the boot we were the new glass sub for the new GC.

Only people going to make money on this job are the lawyers.

Gardner Glass employee dies as a result of accident

Guy was 30yo. I bet the company is found to be at fault for using outdated unsafe practices and equipment.

Was doing some additional research into this at lunch today and North Carolina has some serious issues with loading glass. More guys have died from loading or moving pallets of glass than anywhere int he US that I could find.

This poor guy was killed in April N.C. worker crushed by load of glass | 2019-05-02 | ISHN

I know glaziers by and far have a much lower mortality rate than other careers, but the industry has known how to load and move glass safely for decades so one person being killed is too much. Also why I know someone is at fault for their deaths (might be the people who passed away's fault).

Watch out if you order from Fastenal. I assumed that 3,000 loose screws in a bulk box would be less money than buying 30 packs of 100 screws.

In reality I could not have been more wrong:

That's just crap. I usually see that it comes out to about the same price when buying individual packs vs. bulk. Sometimes the bulk really does save you some money, but that is a HUGE difference. Please tell me that you didn't order....or if you did that you can return. That's ridiculous.

My OCD would never allow me to buy anything w/o comparing the pricing first. Fastenall already has high pricing - not letting them rape me anymore lol

I assume they are from different mfg's. or a hiccup in their system, but I have seen this before just not that big of a difference. Most of this stuff is prob from overseas so maybe thats 'new pricing' based on demand? Who knows

Union just called my boss saying one of my guys complained to them about having to fill out paperwork for one of my jobs this past Saturday the 14th.... fucking guys can be such winy little bitches sometimes. I look out for them - I'm the bad guy. Don't look out for them - I'm the bad guy. The union to date has done nothing - My first call into them was 3 weeks ago asking for info and guidance on these situations and to date Ive gotten NADA so they can suck it from behind!!!

Here is exactly what I sent them with job name being the only change:

I was on the phone for hours last night trying to explain to "some" of the "men" I need to baby sit during the day two simple facts:

1) If you do not work - we do not pay you

2) If you want to work our jobs are open and you can work

Freaking guys tried to use everything to get out of work and still get paid. I heard "jobsite has more than 10 people on it" and on and on and on.

I just sent them the letter from the HEAD of THEIR union and told them if they call out and stay home we understand, but you will not be paid.

Now if you read this and think the unions #1 goal is the safety of their workers.... you have drank their cool aid and towing their company line

By and far 90% of my guys are great - it's the 10% that create 90% of the issues for me.
