I say we pull the TDI motor and stick it in an old Yota. :)

Glad to see you back around Mark, didn't catch ya at Drews cause I was off getting married that day, but congrats on the future nuptuals and son, we should definitley hang out again

Congrats! I heard about that at Drew's place on Friday. That's awesome. I will be around, but I am busier than ever. I am hoping the fiance and I can get out some before the year is out.

It was really good to see you too. It has been too long since I got a chance to hang out with everyone.

Yeah... Except in 2004-2005 Volkswagen decided to do something monumentally stupid. Instead of paying Bosch for the use of the patented common rail injection system that everyone and their cousin had been using for years, they decided to come up with their own fuck up of an injection system - Pumpe Duse (aka Unit Injection). With PD injection the injectors are underneath a rocker inside the head. There is no injection pump - each injector gets fuel from a low pressure line and pressurizes the fuel inside the injector with a big plunger. This seemed like a great idea - tons of power, low emissions, and great fuel economy. The problem is 2 part: 1 they are a bitch to get to and 2) they are super expensive to service and/or replace.

So, I may be deep six'in the TDI for a while.

Nevermind. To hell with that! That's a lot of work. lol

2004 Golf TDI-PD Injector rebuild...

Loaded up Friday night...

Headed out Saturday Morning...

Setting up to yank the injectors while the car is on the trailer...

Can you see the injectors?!?!?! My point exactly.

IMG_3556.jpg

Those aren't valves under those rockers. Those big ass springs are the tops of the injectors.

Without the rockers...

Here is the end of the nozzle for the #2 Cylinder. This is one of the two cylinders that wasn't so bad. If you zoom in super close, you can see the holes for the fuel atomization. On the two very bad cylinders 1 and 3, you couldn't see these at all.

Here they are all removed and "cleaned" as much as possible. Now they are boxed and ready to be shipped to Idaho to be rebuilt by the only company in the United States that rebuilds them correctly.

Now she is sitting on a trailer in the driveway waiting to go back to the shop and get the rebuilt injectors tossed in.

If your short on time and don't have all the tools it can be, I found that out replacing the u-joints on the runner

My friend, Todd, that was helping me out with this does these things all the time. He had them out of the car in 45 minutes and 25 minutes of that he was on the phone with a customer.
