Yeah that's what I'm hoping. I did just get a line on an ARB front bumper. Not my first choice of bumper but for the price I can't pass it up.

Got my CB installed finally.
Installed in ashtray spot:
Mic hung in a convenient spot:
4' Firestik (Need to order a spring):
My answer to the first gens not having a bed rail system:
Now I just need to borrow my buddy's SWR meter and get it tuned. I'm also going to pull the mount and finish grinding it down and hit it with some paint when I get my spring. I just grinded the top and back side to make sure it would ground in the meantime.

There's some AC stuff back there. Ducts and stuff. They can be heated and pushed back but only about 1/8" and that wouldn't have been enough to flush mount it anyway so I just left it as is. Doesn't look that bad when you're in the truck and I'm happy with it.
Yeah, that's how most of them look. I'm gonna have to cut through a steel plate to get mine to mount flush... definitely going to do it though.
Have you considered modifying the radio housing instead?
making it shorter. Alot of times the circuit board in those things is alot smaller than the housing
