No one makes them out of metal anymore. My old saw is cast aluminum and I love it. Plastic will never last as long. I can't imagine any new saw holding up like the one I have now. Almost 20 years of abuse and she still works great. I wonder how a jumped chain is going to react when it hits those cheap plastic hand-guards. I had a chain jump a few years ago and it took a nice chip out of the aluminum. Not sure plastic would of saved my hand like the aluminum did. Who knows? Maybe their braking systems in the new saws are quick enough to stop the chain when it jumps - regardless it won't stop the part thats free from the saw from moving. Ive been eyeing a new saw because my automatic bar oiling system has sprung a leak, but they all seem to be made cheap as sh*t.
I've had the chain jump on my Stihl a couple of times without incident. It usually jumps and then goes down. It hasn't kicked back or anything. (Knock off wood) lol

It shoudl always kick down....don't remember what caused the kick up - I just remember the fear and adrenaline it caused. Same when I nicked my leg as a teenager. I remember being extremely lucky - not what caused it. Reminds me one of these days I need to get some PPE for timber harvesting. At the least some pants to save from losing a leg.

I use the Duluth trading jeans for work pants. Absolutely love em and they have saved my butt many a time.

I hope my Echo trimmer never dies. 7 years and going strong. Fill with Tru Fuel and fires up every time and runs amazing.
Man my craftsman I had ran 100% for 7yrs or so, bout half way into season 8 it started going wonky. Season 9 I started fooling with the jets and it went straight downhilll after that LOL All the internals were squeaky clean but the stupied thing wouldn't run right. Oh well, RIP old friend.

I'm talking about legit "save your artery/leg/life" type pants. 99% of the time I use a chainsaw I'm solo. SHERRILLtree | Chainsaw Protective Pants
I was thinking that in the back of my head when I typed that out yesterday "I wonder if he is talking about Chain pants..."lol

On another note, my two extra chain's for my chainsaw came in.

I bought about 8 chains for my old echo chainsaw from Homie depot in Houston but they are Oregon chains, they are ok and don't last near as long as the factory chains

Ask your local arborist or any place that rents saws or sharpens blades. I get my chains made by a local rental company. Only issue with that is you need to spec what you want and to do that you need to be in the know of what you're cutting, chances of the wood being spiked, etc.

Nothing wrong with Oregon chains. The problem with big box store chains is they are stupid safe. You get 2-3 guards per cutter and their chisel angles of the cutters typically suck (not aggressive).

Thank you for reminding me, the Stihl dealer in Baytown will sharpen the blades for you for a low cost. My stepdad stopped using the dremel attachment once he found out they sharpen blades. So call your local shops and see if they sharpen blades @Taco Loco

Only drawback of getting chains sharpened is they "sometimes" will take a good deal of metal off to insure it's 100% sharp or they are untrained and don't really know. Basically they don't care about taking away "just whats needed" to extend the life of the chain and can take a good amount off. I took a bunch in to my local shop who always "did" a good job. Got them back and a few of them had grooves from the sharpener that started taking away the metal of the next link - thats a HUGE no no. Ever since then I stopped taking mine in. Anyone who's lacking knowledge and takes metal away from the actual links holding the chain together is a complete dumb ass.

That sucks. Yeah it's always a risk having someone else do the work

Just ordered new media room furniture. Its special order so the shit won't ship out until the very end of June! Fuck! But its cool.. 4 seat curved unit with the middle two seats a loveseat, their top of the line brown leather (I hate that bonded leather feels like plastic bullshit), power headrests and recline, lighted cupholders and under chair lighting, black trays for popcorn, wine glass holder, built in USB charger... pretty much everything. And I bought the 5 year no hassle warranty. A buddy of mine bought from the same company and his neighbor did as well and they love them. So I'm hopeful they are not shit.

Not the exact configuration but the same model.

I didn't even order the tablet holder. But I might go back and order the light. It's nice to see the remote in the dark. The newer harmony remotes IMO are not as user friendly as the older ones?
