I'm as careful as possible to make sure that doesn't happen

Looking real good! The amount of tools I've let slip into the water over the years is crazy. Stopped buying good ratchets and knives just because of it. That and also why I never work with a cell in my pocket.


I should get everything sided up to about 10' today. Going to get a nephew to help side the gable above that. Solo vinyl siding on a ladder up in the air ain't gonna happen.

didnt even know they made Romex in 16 gauge. 15 amp breakers require 14 gauge and don’t recall ever seeing anything under a 15 amp breaker in a residential AC breaker box. Maybe they used some leftover stranded automotive wire

Got three out of five temporary walls up this weekend. I've got all of the headers and bottom plates made up.

I'll have to build the last two walls once I get the new beams in place (otherwise they won't fit).

And I got a bunch more misc. stuff done as well.

I've got my three windows on order (10-20 week lead time for hurricane rated glass) and my Pella door and sliding door on order.

All interior doors and my front door are ordered and should be here in a couple of weeks.

Goals for the day done. I was dreading the window trim because the "best practice" method I used 16 years ago ended up having gaps in the miters about a decade later.

This time I only mitered the top j and the sides run through. Now no matter how much movement happens the joint never opens.

And I never run bottom j unless the cut is on top of the thickest part. Utility channel with the sides "running through" works 100x better imho.

ps...aluminum nails can suck start a shotgun. Out of 1,000 I've used so far I think I've bent 100. Think I'm changing to roofing nails for the gable. If they ever rust and stain I'll hopefully be long gone

Would code allow hurricane shutters and normal windows?

I'm not sure to be honest. But I wouldn't think so since you'd have to make sure the hurricane shutters were down if a storm was coming in.

I'm still on the fence about spending the money on hurricane shutters for this house since it might not be our forever home. 3/4" plywood is cheap and easy to put up. It also takes forever to get hurricane shutters before covid, I can't even imagine the lead time on those now... (I installed hurricane shutters on all the windows on my mom's house).

I'm still on the fence about spending the money on hurricane shutters for this house since it might not be our forever home. 3/4" plywood is cheap and easy to put up. It also takes forever to get hurricane shutters before covid, I can't even imagine the lead time on those now... (I installed hurricane shutters on all the windows on my mom's house).

I have seen one house where the guy installed SS threadall's around each window, each piece of plywood is numbered and he uses washers and wing nuts to secure plywood to the house.

That was going to be my backup plan if we didn't move forward with the hurricane shutters.

I use the Amdro in the white container (lil yellow pellets). I put out some this weekend and they are all dead now. The Amdro in the bags is shit just like the spectricide etc these days.

Was just thinking you could avoid the long lead times on the windows.

House will be sold as is. I didnt remodel anything .

Baby steps. Nephews coming over tom so hopefully we can knock it out. I trimmed it all today and got another three rows in. Now's the easy part - just needs siding. Just sucks solo cause the stuffs so freaking flexible.

South side is. New insulation, sheathing, windows, studs, etc.

Upgraded from 1/4" plywood to 5/8" on the gable and from 3/8" to 5/8" under it. These houses made like poo in 64*

I'm just glad someone removed all the asbestos on that side. When I move to the front I'll not have that luxury

Nah. Three of six are good now. I've fixed two already. Only wall left is my east (the front). Luckily it's a one story under an eve and my walls are only 8'. Sadly the eves rotted. Demo for that starts soon as gables sided. Prob sat. I'll have my neihbor spray the three walls I'm leaving the old aluminum up. Luckily it's all typical 4" woodgrain so all my corners match up "pretty good"
