Buy some studs and add them in to make it 16" on center. You're drywall will hold up much better and your insulation will be easier to install.

You can also caulk the gaps between the studs and exterior wall as well as the floor plate where it meets the concrete to help keep out drafts or bugs. You can see the caulking between the studs and exterior sheathing. It makes a difference and it not expensive to do, just time consuming.

I got some more stuff organized in the garage, hung a large window blind and finished putting in the last custom shelves in my kiddos closet.

Those new drywall anchors I got made a difference as they are both easier to install and actually hold weight unlike the plastic anchors or the shitty plastic toggle anchors.

I would not move existing studs.
Easier to split the difference and put them on 12" centers. The 12in wide insulation batt is not as common, so it will be a little more money wise, but in the end a whole lot less work!!

Builder didn't have the door square, and the latch bolt was never aligned very well.
Ordered a larger strike plate and the door has no issues now. Not gonna counter sink the plate, , it's already time to sell this house, my youngest graduates HS in May.

I would not move existing studs.

Sorry, disregard that 16" o.c. I'm still in the mindset of everything's been ripped out, so change it. You won't be able to change the stud spacing with the exterior sheathing on the otherside.

However, I would put in some blocking to help make stiffen the wall a bit more, provide a firebreak and give you extra material to screw the sheetrock too. Measure 48" from the top of the ceiling sheetrock down and that'll be your chalk line to pop and then add the blocking. In residential construction, you always hang the sheetrock horizontally and start from the top of the wall down to the floor.

Easy part done. Going to knock out the electrical tomorrow and hopefully go pick up the insulation and drywall as well. Decided to trash the existing insulation and replace with some higher r-value stuff. Get it hung throughout the week and then next weekend my BIL is going to come over and teach me taping and bedding. Also going to throw some blocking in there in the spots I know I’ll be anchoring shelves or hanging slat wall/gear track. Will probably add some in spots I expect to use in the future as well. Think about foam spraying it, as you tear into walls.

Check out my electric bill, 100% electric heat here, and we probably have higher rates than most everyone else on here, damn city owns our electric. 1750sq ft with 2 car.

Spray foam is awesome but he would need to have all the walls spray foamed at one time (I think he's just doing one wall at a time right now).

For right now I’m just doing this one wall. I’ll do the other two as well at some point but they’re significantly more expensive to do (two doors, new breaker panel, removing/replumbing/reinstalling water heater, etc) so they’ll get done after we take care of some of the interior projects we have on the list. Wish I could do it all at once but I have no desire to rent a storage unit and move all my shit out of the garage while I do the whole thing. So for now I’m just pushing it all against the opposite wall.

I haven’t gotten shit done on this one this week though with the way work has gone other than mounting outlet boxes and marking where I need to install blocking. Hauling all the stuff I ripped out to the dump on Saturday and picking up the insulation and blocking lumber so hopefully it’ll be insulated and wired this weekend and then I can pick up the drywall one day next week if work is calmer.

I’m sure it’s just more cost effective to do it all at once rather than have someone come out and do it several times. I looked into the DIY kits real quick. Looks like it’s about $800 for a kit that does 50cuft. So $800 a wall. No thanks.

The fee to come out and spray that one wall would be absurd. It would take them longer to get setup and then clean out the spray system than it would to spray that one wall. I doubt he could find anyone that would come do this job unless they just charged an insane amount or he has a buddy with a spray foam system.

Had a fairly heavy wind storm come through here a few weeks ago and it took out some stuff in the yard. Luckily nothing major. One big tree branch and a few sections of my PVC privacy fence.

I made short work of the tree branch on a warmer afternoon.

The fence I'll have to see if I can order exact replacement and maybe DIY or just call someone to come out and replace
