Get a piece of 1/8" or better (1/4" would be awesome) flat plate about 12"x12" and mount it below the bench. Keep it from coming loose in that wood. Nice vise though, back when Craftsman was a name you could trust for quality.
So I finally bought a compact DeWalt hammerdrill because I need a real one to abuse now. I used a similar older model of this one when I had to put in around ~300 3/4" concrete anchors in a fire station and EMS building. We burned out a hilti and a bosch hammerdrill but this little one went all day without a problem.
