if you do chose a pre made pan mount a 2x4 to the floor right behind the front lip so if anyone kicks the pan your grout doesn't crack. Basically sandwich the pan with wood in the back and tile in front. the wood must be tight against the pan. also I'd stay away from pans that require it be set into mortar - they suck structurally compared to the ones that can handle weight on their own. The self sufficient pans are even better if you add some spray foam to them.
