Fireball tool makes a bad ass voice that blows just about everything else out of the water

Looks almost identical to the Rigid ones made in Germany.

My dad bought this off CL for me last year, made by the Morgan Vise Company when it was in Chicago. Morgan later moved to Peoria and then to Milwaukee. Anyhow, the Chicago ones were made from (IIRC) 1918-1937. So its old.

Y'all missed the part about not breaking the bank. What about that Bessey @ HD?

BESSEY 4 in. Heavy-Duty Bench Vise with Swivel Base-BV-HD40 - The Home Depot

I bought a cheap vise once.. a Homer Depot Wilton HD one.. it lasted about 2 years. Cracked at the base. You can't fix it. Well.. maybe with some special ARC welding rods. IMO, just buy it once. If you buy a Wilton, buy a good one. IMO HD doesn't sell anything off the shelf I would use. Check CL for old ones. I think my dad paid about $75 for that old ass one I have and it still works perfect and will probably do so for another 90 years. I plan to build a cutting table for it to mount to (add my cold cut saw and bandsaw onto it)

I'd buy that Fireball vise posted above. Its not going to break the bank at $120 for the 4".. I'd pony up the $160 for the 5". Forged Bench Vise

the amount of time saved with a baker scaffold vs working from ladders or poles can be very surprising. Good call. Your back and arms will thank you

yeah it’s just safer period, plus your able to control more of your painting equipment without having to balance on a ladder.

Looks tiny. lol

That's not in the same league as the Wiltons you buy at HD. Its like comparing a ZR1 with a Chevette and saying "Well they are both Chevy's". :D

I need to find the photo of the vice my dad has, its also 80+ years old, thing is HUGE!! Weighs well over 200 lbs, its mounted to a 12" I-Beam section standing on end that is welded to two 1/2" plates (top and bottom).. bottom is bolted to the floor. You could probably ram a car into it and it would not budge. I think he said that in 1925 or whenever it was made (pretty sure it was the mid-20's) that it cost $31.

Nice lol
I have a huge Ridged brand one at the house that's fairly old. I just refinished it a few months back because it looks cool, but it ain't got shit on the Wilton on my shop bench.

We use Wilton bullet vises at work and they're fucking indestructible. But way out of any budget I'll ever have for a vise.

Just not sure how happy I'd be with a $35 vise. I've also considered something like this. That way it is easier to return if it sucks. Plus, it has the words "heavy duty" in the title.

Check craigslist, Facebook marketplace or call around to Antique shops to see if they have any old heavy duty vises for sale.
