Not discussing the vehicle - but proper prep does mean the difference between life and death. The guy was an Army Vet who had desert training / experience. They both were considered experienced campers who had left an itinerary with other people. They did most everything right and still paid the ultimate cost.

No need for death. Not sure I would agree with the did most everything right. I would love to see the gear they had - I bet street tires, no air, no plugs, no [fill in the blank]

True; but I guarantee you they thought they were 100% prepared before they left. Situations like this always make me go through my checklist again. We always take an extra day or two of food, a handheld HAM radio (with info on local repeaters if possible), and try to make sure my "worst case" plan is current for terrain and weather conditions.

Idk man. Sounds the opposite to me. They sound unprepared at best. Broke just about every rule and it lead to their demise

RIP

A PLB would of had them saved same day........

You can never have too much food. We have ALWAYS brought a medium sized tub filled with pasta, pasta sauce, canned goods like chili, etc. - I'd say we'd have about 7 healthy days of eating - not eating as I might want but eating all the same. :)
