Looks like you guys had a great time working on it. Those Bugs amaze me at how simple and durable they are... not to mention you can buy a TON of aftermarket parts for them.

Yeah - lot's of work for such a simple beast. The parts and spares efforts are just as much effort or more! I think we have 18 new tires on rims. The price of increasing our chances of FINISHING!!!! Ringing true once again: "It doesn't take cubic inches. It takes cubic DOLLARS!"
Couple more weeks of time with months worth of work due!!!

I didn't do anything to my ride today. I did, however, forget to check my welding gas before Boyd came over with his sliders... got the plates and gussets on the one side before I ran out... oops...

Tweaked the bikini top today... it fits MUCH better now. For now I just folded it over and used some 3M spray adhesive to hold it together up front.. the part that pinched between the frame and B pillar. But its tight and looks good. In the future I might trim it back and have someone sew a small rope in the seam.
Got the shackles out back installed. It really levels out the truck. I am going to hold off on the fronts until I do the complete suspension. Hard to tell from this shitty pic.
I also started to build a driver side mirror mount.. nothing fancy just something that allows me to see backwards. Installed a big clip on mirror for the rear view... the factory one is pretty damn small and I had a hard time seeing jack squat out of it.

had to get mid-evil to straiten my crumpled bed floor. I beat the piss out of it with a 5 lb sledge & it would not budge. So I welded some tabs on, hauled it out to my dads place and broke out some heavy machinery.

Also added beverage holders... had to move them from the doors because the cage is in the way. I mounted them up higher to give the shifter a little more room.
Downside is that I have some leaks in the beadlocks.. I need to pull the rims and tires and do a proper torquing on them. I hit them with the impact to tighten them up but when I wet my had and stick it inside the wheel I can feel cool air slightly blowing on it. fawk!

Oh.. I did one thing to the Taco.. installed a radar detector. Cobra's iRadar... yes it integrates through Bluetooth with my iPhone. Displays known speed cameras, speed traps, etc. Plus the other crap they do. I like the unit because its very simple, only one button and a volume knob. The app for the iPhone is pretty slick, easy to use and it works. No pics of the install.

I'm not sure what the real fix is.. supposedly you only torque them to 15 lbs. I have them more than that for sure. But I know I'll have to just pull the wheel and tires off the truck and lay them flat to get them set properly.

After two weeks of wrenching on the bug, having some 'quality time' with Zoom. Me in a chair. She's off shopping. Funny thing is that she will feel better for a while and then ill have some MAN weeks. SEMA, Death Valley with some China Lake deck skimers, Barstow testing of the bug, 3 days in Anza Borego wheeling, then, a week of Baja! I'm going to need a vacation!

Its just ultra flat khaki... no camo (yet). I suppose the dirt and caked on mud give it a two tone camo pattern.

Yeah, it was this pic on my droid and I was looking at it in the sun - It would be cool to have a tone-on-tone camo!

I cannot take any credit for this, my dad came up with the plan. I was thinking a big tree & a come-along, he said the hydraulics on his tractor had WAY more power & could it done in an extremely controlled manner. It worked great.
