My wife washed my truck on Saturday and said it wasn't like that. I noticed it at a gas station in Alabama the next day. Im relatively certain it happened on the highway, or at least that's where most of the paint tore off.

That's Mr Asshole to you
The fender paint is shitty and not the same as the body paint. I want to say I saw a TSB for it several years ago where the dealer was having them repainted to actually match the body but I could be wrong.

I'm planning to sell my old car soon and today I made an inspection of a vehicle’s mechanical and structural condition and appearance. I asked for help independent vehicle inspection specialists from VINZ service in Auckland, NZ. They did all work at affordable price. I think PPI can give a buyer greater confidence to commit a purchase.
Oh nice. Hadn't seen spam here for a while!!!

Blame the wife, now you can dedicate that truck for the trails, and buy a new truck for DD.

A rock probably pegged it from the inside, and like @tex said, about tsb.

She use a pressure washer? If so they may have had the PSI turned up too high so it blasted the paint right off. My 10hp Honda pressure washer will take paint right off a car....or skin of a finger......or laces off a shoe.....or 1/4" of wood off the top of decking..... ask me how I know lol

Toyota paint sucks in general. I know there was an issue with the Rad Red and the dark Blue Tacoma paint. They were having problems with the roof paint and side fenders paint just peeling off due to UV damage.

My brother has a Red 2009 Tundra and the side fender paint is peeling off as well. And all his truck sees is highway miles too.

Make sure you read the directions. Whatever you do, do NOT hook up a standard battery charger on these batteries in the future. It kills em.

But save this link for future purchase. It's what you'll need to "re-condition" the pure lead in the Odyssey batteries after sulfation occurs from use. Also, if you don't use this Odyssey charger, it'll void your warranty. But...at least it works. I've had to use it a couple of times on my Odyssey's.

No pressure washer was used. I don't even own one... yet.

I'll look into tsb. Would prefer to have it fixed on Toyota's dime. If not, I've decided to leave it. I won't care about custom pinstripes in the future.

I've kind of loosely planned to get a new car in a year anyway. I never planned on getting rid of the truck. This just sort of solidifies it. No way anyone would give me what it is worth to me. It's getting a little rough around the edges, but it's reliable as can be.

Can't find a tsb for that, but did find one for when the paint looks stained. Sadly, that isn't my issue.

Called the local dealership and they didn't have any record of a TSB for that either.

I am considering taking it in for a cooling system flush. I know it's pricey to have them do it, but the fluid is expensive alone, and I don't have a shop right now. I also found some other TSBs that I believe do apply to my truck. If I can get them done for free, I'm all about it.

Thinking they may be cheap I looked at Rock Auto to see how much - $144 per fender in black so that sucks. I was thinking they would be way cheaper. So a little over $600 for all new black fenders and clips and you could rattle can them to look good for $200 I;d assume.

He could pop that one fender off and leave it at a paint shop to get repainted. It won't be cheap but at least he could still drive the truck.

This is the same conversation I've had with my wife on my truck. I did tell her however that I'll need to get it repainted here in a few years (still cheaper than a new car). I'm planning on removing the fenders, cutting my wheel wells to fit 35's and then having them bondo/weld in little plates where the holes for the fender clips are because I want to get rid of the fenders completely. I really like the way 2nd gen Tacoma's look without them.

Also, we've almost paid off my wife's car, so in a couple of years, we'll buy her an SUV and I'll take her car for my DD. She wants to wait for the self driving technology to get better/more advanced and then get a new car.

My dad paid $80 to have his Sequoia flair repainted FWIW.

Sounds about right. I used to pay $100 for my Lund Visors to get painted before I mounted them on my Exploders. Yea, I was one of those guys. It matched my 89* Mustang GT and my 89* Kawi 750 Ninja.......man am I getting old.

I used black Silly cone on my fenders and even when I was rear-ended at 50 mph (I was still), the flares were still on the crumpled fender. :)

So for those of you who remember the flying trampoline, the fender was replaced and painted by Caliber Collision. Not sure what sparked my memory about that, but it's covered under their satisfaction guarantee and they are going to repaint it for free next Tuesday. They will also take care of the slight orange peel effect on the other spots that they painted.

I first took a vehicle to Caliber about 15 years ago and they are the only one I go to since. Had nothing but good luck with them. Heck even when the wife totaled her car in Dallas last year, we didn't know it was totaled when it went in. Anyhow, I asked the service manager to send me the video headrests (not a factory option but installed after). The dude had someone remove them and packaged them up and sent them to us at no charge. I know its a drop in the bucket to them to send it, but it was just another example of good customer service.
