Thanks for the reassurance Andy, I was second guessing them after Randy told me they where no better than the Pro-comps. They will not be a part of my final set-up, I just want to use them for a year or 2 untill I get abunch of other things worked out. I was planning on buying a Blazeland kit (which would of course require different shocks) sonner rather than later, but have pretty much made up my mind that I would rather spend that money on regearing and armour.

Something that has been bothering me about this project is that I have only been able to get a limited amount of enjoyment out of it. I enjoy working on it, but having it sit in my back yard all of the time isn't much fun. I really want to get it street legal so that I can drive it around town and to BVORR. Say what you will but I think it would be cool to build the half doors and drive it around this summer with the hard top off, that way I can still get some pleasure out of it between wheeling trips and it would also give me a chance to work out bugs so that I could have a little more faith in it's reliablity. Not really sure that I want to continue calling it a "trail rig" anymore, while having it be capaible off road is the final goal, at this point it doesn't HAVE to be trail only, hell it is still mostly stock.

Now that I am out from underneath my Tacoma payment and a few other bills I hope this will be a better year for the old runner.

true words, rob. I have had the same feelings, mandy said it best-"why would you only want to make it for the trails when you only go every 2-3 months?" That is why i want it street legal and capable offroad. Drew now hates this word but it is what i want, an expedition rig. One that can go to the grocery store and then strait to hot springs, gilmer, BVVOR, etc and then play.

Once you drive it with the doors and top off you won't want to put them back on.

I already have a set of pick-up doors with out the triangle vent window (sorry Drew) that I want to cut up and make half doors out of, just need to get around to it. Not sure why but I preffer the look over tube doors. I need to get them done so that I can paint them and rear quarter / tail gate all at once.

So oppinions on gears and armour first? I am in the middle of intense negotiations with the wife to free up some money for the runner and need to make up my mind.

Yes, I am surely interested in it. Wouldn't you know that would pop up right after I decided to put it off and buy gears instead? It would be a good oppertunity to grab it up. I am subscribed to the thread and keeping a close eye on it. I need a few days to pull the funds together so for now I am holding out and waiting to see what happens.

Gears get 5.29s should get you some get up and go for the road but not be horrible at highway speed. Then get a front lockrite and be done with gears forever.

^ my plan exactly. I would like to one day get an ARB for the front, but that will be down the road aways. I am thinking that the best way to do the gears would be to buy the R&P's and pull the 3rd's, have them installed locally. Todd says there is a place in town that can do them for under $100 each.

That sounds like too good of a deal I'd make sure they are doing a proper install checking the tollersnces

I just called and he said that it's $125 for installation if I pull the 3rd's & supply the R&P's.

No.

Looks like murphy is going to nab that Blazeland kit on YT. Looks like i was just a couple days too slow coming up with the cash. Could have bought it on Monday.

^ true. I'm not mad about it. Murphy called me to be sure it was cool if he bought it. I'm just glad that somebody got it, even if it wasn't me. Besides, my junk needs other stuff worse.

After a few romps on the 4runner I noticed a pretty ugly oil leak, you can sorta see in this pic the spot on the driveway. Not the little one under the front bumper, the big one further under there. I wasn't about to lay in the icey mess to figure out where it was coming from, but it has been bugging me.

Anyways I fixed it today. I could tell the oil was coming from the back of the motor, up high. Turns out all 4 of my valve cover bolts where extremely loose, the left rear corner I turned 3 full turns WITH MY FINGERS before it got snug. It was prob close to falling off all together! I know I didn't tighten them up very much from the last valve adjustment, I think they are supposed to be at 10 ft-lbs or something like that. Maybe the rubber bushings settled some? Makes me feel a little dumb on one hand, but also grateful that it was a super easy fix ,lol. I cleaned the mess up half-ass and will keep an eye on it, but really sure that was the problem.

Also unless UPS is lying to me AGAIN then I should have some shocks at my door when I get home this evening.
