I got some work done on my Heim joint / Tie rod end conversion. I didn't have any steel tubing laying around, so I ended up using some solid 4140 & just drilling & tapping the 3/4-16 right & left hand threads. (major overkill) Also made some stainless steel tapered bushings to adapt the heims to the knuckle & drag link. The bushings are 5/8" OD to fit nicely inside the heim's misalignment spacers & 1/2" ID to clear my bolt. I still don't have them on the truck, but here are some pics of the progress.

LOL, I'll have to be more carefull about posting pictures with toes.

But back to the point. I think the heim's are going to be fucking sweet, definatly industructable. Gonna try & put them on today or tomorrow. Good chance I will have to modify them a little, I am worried about clerance between the drag link & the frame. I am really looking forward to getting a much needed alignment.

Wow, those are beefy, I think you might just tear the steering box off the frame before ever breaking one of those.

I got the drivers side installed last night to check for clerance problems. I was expecting 1 or 2. All in all I think they are going to work out great.

You can see in these pics how close they come to the castle nut on the pitman arm to draglink.

Never touches though. I will probably turn another 1/8" off of the shaft anyways.

Also the head of my bolt does contact the frame here. It just barelly touches so I am going to try & cut an 1/8" or so off of the outboard misalignment spacer & that should cure the problem.

Looking good Robbie. Are you planning to build the center section of that steering setup as well using heims?

I haven't even begun to wrap my mind around how to get the pitman & idler arm to adapt to the heims. That would be cool & I'll look into weather or not it could be done.
