What have you done to your ride lately?

I started sound deadening the 4runner today. Got 3 doors knocked out. Probably finish it up tomorrow.

I have been wanting to do that to my Tacoma along with some thermal insulation around the transmission tunnel. It's surprising how warm the carpet around the transmission gets with just easy cruising around town.

The floor on my 4th gen would get warm on the edge of the passenger floor. That was where the exhaust banks merged. Pretty sure the thin heatshield was gone underneath but never got around to looking or dealing with it before selling.

I’ve got about 4-5 layers on the doors of the Taco. Floor only has one layer. Someday I’d like to pull the carpet and add a few more layers. My doors sound like you are tapping on a 6x6 post.

I bought some 2k gloss black spray along with the clear coat. Plan is to paint the B pillars on the Colorado gloss black. I did then with a cheap black vinyl wrap job and I liked the look, I just did a shitty job on the wrap. So hopefully this paint turns out nice. Just need to prep for it carefully.

Some pics of when I did the vinyl wrap.

The whole passenger floor and the whole trans tunnel gets warm in mine. The cupholders keep coffee warm for a while, haha. I took a road trip with a small cooler on the passenger floor so I could reach snacks and drinks while driving….the ice melted so fast. What material do you guys recommend for sound and then what for heat?

I used Dynamat initially, probably bought 130 sq ft of the stuff. But its $$ I did buy some of this (50 sq ft) when I did the rear doors of the Taco and I was very impressed. It's WAY less $$ and it works great. Not sure how it would do for heat, probably just transfer it though itself, but for sound deadening I would recommend it.

Not sure about heat, but for sound i have stuff off Amazon made by Siless and Fat Mat.

I used Noico Red 150mil and Noico Butyl 80mil over top of that on the 4Runner. The Noico Red is supposed to provide some heat protection.

Cool thanks for the recommendations. I’ll probably end up with a lot of that stuff. I want to do the Tacoma, the lady’s Civic, and maybe the Tundra, but I don’t really like to put money into that truck so we’ll see about that.

It's a lot of work, time, and money; so if you don't want to put money into the truck, then don't consider soundproofing it.

One of the doors that got repaired after it was damaged doesn’t sound like the other 3 doors and that bothers me a little bit. It sounds hollow when it closes

Oh I was under the assumption you were going to sound deaden the whole truck.

They did a great job. Actually undercharged me. Said it would take 4 hours. I told them it would take a lot more. Anyhow, took them about 10 hours but they honored the 4 hour quote. I like it.
