I have been told that the mattresses in the tent work great, just throw some sheets on, a thick quilt and have sleeping bags as back ups if needed and it supposed to just be like sleeping at home. I cannot freaking wait

So did a bit of work on the truck, got the new rear bumper on, the thing is freaking beefy. Got eaten alive by freaking mosquitoes....

I didn't get it pre-powdercoated as we have found that the Canadian winters just eat the light coatings. But onto pics

Umm... if you are talking about that company that makes that bumper - yeah - known fact their efforts to minimize costs and maximize profits resulted in very shitty powder coating. They blamed it on the vendor. If you have a reputable company powder coat (with primer) it would be tough to beat powder coating. We used to make marine heat exchangers with powder coated (quality coating) housings and they held up better than paint every time.

Yeah, we have some pretty good powdercoating companies up here (LOTS of Oil and Gas companies), but unfortunately the one I chose to do the front bumper fucked up, and now the bumper is rusting.

The plan is to do Whipsaw, and then late in Aug, pull both the front and rears and take them in to get done at the same time at a different company. Then everything will match and hopefully I wont have to worry about rust or any of that BS.

Comparing the front and rear bumper, I have to say the rear is much better designed, thicker plate, and much more cross bracing. Found a few more pics

And although wheeling has pitted and scraped my skids and bumpers the powder coat base did protect from general rust.

I got my sliders powder coated from CBI and it is holding up great, even where I step in/out of the truck. The only spots that got beat were from the rocks but those will take off just about any coating

a few more updates, got the CB installed, RTT on, and then went to whipsaw to play

Then spent some time at the lake and turned my truck into a beach bum rig

Found out another lesson the hard way, a Transfer case shield, does NOTHING to protect the transfer case, if anything causes a failure. Good thing I had steel epoxy with me, and extra gear oil.

Anyone know of a good transfer case skid plate that goes frame to frame?

Tent looks good! As for a t-case skid, ATO is about the best you'll find around. Comes with additional crossmember that bolts between the frame rails

Thanks, to be honest your truck has been a serious inspiration to me!

The top sets up in under 5 mins, the annex below takes about 10 mins, but when camping with the gf its a necessity as it allows her to use a chemical toilet which we set up below. No worries about going outside in the weather. By doing that I became a HERO!

The tent is the CVT Mt. Shasta, its a great deal and comes with the annex

If we could just figure out a way to give them AC I would buy one. Just too damn hot down here to have one and not be able to use 6 months out of the year due to heat.

I'm sure that there is someone who found a way to do it, if someone can ghetto fab up a house AC to a car window, I'm sure you could find some way to put AC in the tent.

Also with all the windows open, it can get a good breeze going and keeps it cool, well at least up here.

A few years ago I saw a build on the Wheelers for the Wounded Jeep. It had a off-road trailer behind it with a RTT up above on a rack. But they had an AC unit mounted below with vents in the floor of the tent. Pretty damn slick. I'll see if I can find some pics.

Here's the 411 on the A/C and heating unit. As you can see, the PVC pipes are run up through the floor of the tent. The pipe on the left is where the air will enter the tent. It is curved so that I can point it in whatever direction I want.

The taller pipe on the right is the air conditioning return. It is tall so that it will suck the warmer air from the top of the tent. In the background of the picture you'll see a shorter pipe. That one is the heating return, and will suck the colder air from the bottom of the tent.

You'll notice I had to pull the bedding back to get this picture. When I get back to Florida I will have Top Stitch (they did some mods on my Jeep) cut holes into the bedding and sew them up (so they will not expand or rip further). The height of the bedding and the attachment points for the PVC tubing are the same height. As for concerns about those interfering with my sleeping, I have none. The tent is HUGE and I've got more than enough room to move around without having to worry about hitting the PVC. Heck, two people would have plenty of room in that tent.

could also look into the bud built options for skids...they may have less of a lead time... when i asked kevin July 24 about lead time on an IFS skid, "Right now you'd be looking at something like 2 weeks before I could ship. I don't have any in stock but am getting ready to place another order with my supplier in the next day or so. "

I increased the strength of my Bud Builts by welding some 1" angle laid down like a triangle on the backsides. Added minimal weight to it vs. going with 1/4" skids. I just laid it down and stitch welded them to areas the had the space above. Just a few pieces per skid.

i should have done that to my ATOs...my tcase and tranny skids both have a slight arc to them...

my allpoo IFS is all jacked up...it's beyond repair...
