Just checked... Day 18. As much as we have done we still have a lot to go.

Right now I am tempted to get the frame gussets up front - Has anyone here used them on their early trucks? I don't really want to pack too many new things if its not going to really help me.

The third casting now hangs down about a half inch. You can barely see it in this photo. I will be cutting that off flush - had to clock the two bottom nuts so that the bottom side is parallel with the ground - since that's the plane that I will have to cut the iron down to (or up to).

:D Here too.

I did get the propane kit today!!! :D

I need to trim is the bottom of the front diff housing - You can see here that it needs to be whacked so I don't have a chin waiting to be whacked!

DSCF9254.JPG

this picture exaggerates the condition but the housing will be whacked so that these openings will have about and 1/8" edge distance.

Although the 'E.D' (not that E.D.! - Edge Distance) will be shy of what the designers had in mind, but between the 1/2" thick plate on the housing and the fact that the mating surface (the effective gasket area) is just as small, I feed good about whacking it!

Hoping to find later model hubs for the front so that I can use the Landcruiser discs! - The holes for the bolts on the discs are a couple of sizes too big and the later model hubs have larger bolts.

So I'm thinking of my tail end purchases - Wheels an tires.

This is what I am thinking. It's more than I wanted to spend but it would match the other parts of the truck in many ways.

($272 each)

With these:

($385 each)

Ouch but I think it would make an enjoyable truck to drive to the trail. :D

I think those rims are a good idea. Why put cheap rims on a rig with thousands in other parts?

Same thing on the tires though, you have a TON of performance upgrades, why would you sacrifice ultimate traction by using a glorified street tire?

(Just being the devils advocate, clearly I own KM2s)

Thinking the same... as much as I will have to swallow hard when I buy them, I think it would be a strong link in the otherwise strong chain. The other thing is less chance of a death wobble with new tires! I think 37s should get me everywhere I want to go... I figure between the belly and the diffs, I will get a good blend of ground clearance without a monster lift! :D

I don't see anything wrong with those rims... however for the $$.. I would think about spending a little more and getting Walker Evans.. just because i think those are some awesome rims. But I haven't really heard anything bad about the TG beadlocks. Of course, giving a $320 rim rock rash would be easier to swallow than a $400 rim. :)

As for tires.. man you need to get some sticky Crawlers, IROK's/SX's/TSL's... or Creepy Crawlers. KM2's are a great off-road tire but they can't compare to a dedicated off-road tire, even in a 37.
