Big bend ... 7 days?

Leaving out 4am Saturday morning, having lunch with a guy that wants to look over my rig in Alpine, and going to be at the park by sundown. Since the original plan got changed we made a few adjustments and may not be in the park the whole trip.

Oh God, you and Zech on the same trip. Glad I cant go. I would probably die from alcohol poisoning.

Ironically I do not drink much when I am out there in the Promised Land.

Yikes!!! I hope those bolts are not stainless. Either way dissimilar metals will cause issues, just faster w/stainless and aluminum

I wish dissimilar metals was the biggest issue with the Rocky Mountains Rack. I did some thinking yesterday and have a good plan for a good roof rack with proper mounts, bracing, and side pieces.

Nah, she doenst give a shit how much I drink as long as I can function enough to take care of myself . Alcohol has just been making me super sick recently. Even just a single beer has me nauseous almost immediately. Pretty sure it's just my body rejecting it after the last 27 years of treating my body like absolute shit and not taking care of it at all. Trying to clean up my diet and cut out the alcohol, sodas, and other sugary drinks for a while. I'm tired of dragging through every day with no energy and sleeping like shit at night.

I quit smoking Sept 17th and ever since I swear someones been lacing my food and drink with speed. I already had cut soda from my intake. One thing I didn't realize is that in those two months Ive not been drunk once and only had a few beers the 2-3 times I did drink. I still have other vices to keep me sane.

So a few things came to light that need work/ replacement sometime soon. 1 - I want to setup a basic OBA with an air drop in the front and back bumpers. The Smittybilt 2781 has solid reviews and moves some solid amounts of air. 2 - The old motorcycle battery I have been using for a house power battery finally did not make it for a full night. So I am going to compare space vs battery size before replaceing it. The battery is 7 years old so a new battery will most likely work pretty well. 3 - Need to push forward with storage drawers for the cargo area. I have the basic material; just need to figure out what I want to do for the fridge and securing the drawers.

So my roof rack ordeal may have a solution soon. Prinsu finally came out with a 3rd gen roof rack that is exactly what I wished the Matterhorn was. So I am going to sell the Matterhorn and get a Prinsu. Sucks but it is what it is. I think the Matterhorn would work great for someone that did not carry a RTT up there.

But the Prinsu uses all 5 available bolt holes and a front contact pad to hold the rack down. The 3rd gen roof is pretty soft so this helps distribute weight a lot better and is a more solid design overall.

Looking forward to getting the Prinsu for the 3rd gen though. At least I did not have any serious long term damage from the Matterhorn.

Posted this on T4R; figured I would save it here as well for future reference in regards to tires I have ran on the 4Runner:

BFG KO2 - looked good, handled fine, threw every rock they could. I ended up taking them off after 10k miles for fear of my paint. I spent a lot of time on dirt/gravel roads in that time.

Hankook MTs - great tires of off road performance, decent road manners but they got loud on pavement, as they aged they got harder to balance. Still a favorite tire for aggressive tires at the price point.

Hankook ATMs -great compromise tire for good pavement driving and solid off road use. I used these tires on a few off road trips that were iffy and they handled fine once aired down a little. They had good mileage life with close to 45k miles on them. I bought two sets of these tires; tough to beat at the price point.

Cooper ATPs - current set of tires that I have been on for roughly 5k miles now. I have used them for a few off road trips with impressive results, they have impressive pavement manners (my wife falls asleep anytime I drive more than 10 mins and these tires do not interrupt her sleep). This has been a heavy rain year for Texas and I am very happy with these tires performance in these rains. At this point I do plan to buy these tires again.

I loved my hankook atm tires. Blew out a sidewall but I was running like 12 psi and going 20 mph when it happened. But still my fav AT tire.

I liked the Hankook ATMs and would run them again. I had other suspension/alignment issues during the second set that made them wear badly. I was shocked at how quickly they went from okay to complete crap. But when they were in good shape the tires performed well off road and had good street manners.

I loved the Hankook off road. I think they were actually a bit quieter than the BFGs. They were stickier off road but the sidewalls let me down more than once.
