4 corners/Moab epic run

That's Mr Asshole to you
So here is the deal. I was planning to go up to Colorado with my brother the last week of August but decided to move it back a week.
The plan as of now is below.
Leave DFW Friday August 29th after work and stay the night in Amarillo. Mostly because I get off at 4pm and my cousin lives in there so I have a free bed.
Get up on Saturday and head north. Have lunch in Alamosa at San Luis Valley Brewing Company. Then keep going north west into Creede and camp west of town at the birth place of the Rio Grande river. I camped here in 2012 and the spot is absolutely amazing.
Wake up Sunday morning and head towards Silverton via Stoney Pass. From Silverton take Black Bear pass into Telluride. Then Imogene in Ouray. Once in Ouray take black top to Moab and spend Sunday night. It will probably be late on Sunday when we arrive in Moab so thinking a hotel might be the best thing. Once in Moab the plan is to spend the next 3-4 days wheeling there. Then Thursday head back to DFW and might spend the night in Amarillo coming home but just need to wait and see how it goes.
If anyone wants to go that would be great. We always talk about going and this is as good a time as any. Pack your shit and get your rig ready for an awesome trip.

Sounds like a fun trip - That Sunday you have planned is going to be brutal, though...

Its going to be a lot of seat time but it can be done. I did pretty much that same route 2 years ago but in 2012 went up Ophir instead of Black Bear. Then took Cinnamon back over to Lake City. So cutting out Cinnamon and heading to Moab from Ouray I figure its about the same amount of time.

Securing my time off in the morning. My roommate may join us for the Colorado portion depending on how his internship schedule pans out. He'll have class Tuesday morning though so when we head to Moab, he'll turn around and head back to Texas.

That would be a long way to drive just to hit a few trails in Colorado. Not sure if it would be worth it to your roommate.
Also the plan for Sunday could be altered depending how the trails go that day. We could head straight from Telluride to Moab and not do Imogene if time is not on our side.

Same here. I can't make it. My august funds are allocated to a wedding I have to fly too.

You should skip Imogene and do Poughkeepsie trail instead.

So you're saying there's a chance!

Just be sure Lyndall is there to winch you up the wall... I did.

I would love to do Poughkeepsie but not sure if we will have time after Black Bear since we will be heading to Moab that day. I also think it is a little out of the way from where we will need to go but I could be wrong.

If you didn't do Stony Pass coming into Telluride, you could do Poughkeepsie coming from Ouray and then catch one of the other passes over to 550 and pick up Black Bear.

I think you'd run out of time, even doing Imogene. I'd plan for 4 hours on each trail and you want to be off the mountain by afternoon.

Yeah, I was thinking the same...

... weather and traffic on the passes are another wild card.

I would skip blackbear and do Poughkeepsie. 100x more scenic, longer trail with more obstacles, less people on the trail and more beautiful scenery. Black bear was a shit show at the end of the trail with people hiking up the trail and walking in front of the trucks, mountain bikers blocking you, tons of cars at the end of the trail...etc. Poughkeepsie has a small rock garden, rock walls go go up and multiple trails that split off and then join back together with each one being slightly different. Black bear pass has the one tight turn that's a butthole clencher and thats it. Other than that, its all sharp turns which gets really boring.

When we went through, everyone had to winch up. Even the trail rigs on 40" tires behind us couldn't make it up, so don't feel too bad about it. lol
