Just call in sick next week and head up with the TOR crew

I have really been thinking of a way to go next week. 2 people on my team off work and then me in NYC the week after all cause issues. Plus I need to save the rest of my days off for Christmas or Thanksgiving.

Got light headed going over the first tall pass outside of Raton and then Monarch Pass where the continental divide is on Tuesday. I still got winded while exerting myselfl, but I didn't get light headed at any of the passes after Tuesday.

That's good.

That would be my only fear of taking family members. Altitude Sickness sucks. I've only had it on top of Mt. Whitney (live at sea level) within 24 hours I was at 11-12,000 feet. I've had to cancel a backpacking trip halfway through due to Z's altitude sickness (bad headaches). Used to work in the Nat'l Ski Patrol and we would have people nearly everyday with it. The only 'cure' is O2 or go down in elevation.

Drinking water helps as well. Also not going straight to 7000-8000 from sea level in one day helps your bodies red blood cell count to compensate for the thinner air.

I can't handle altitude at all... makes a cheaper drunk though.. :D

Yes it does. One night after a long hike I pulled a muscle in my leg. My mom gave me a muscle relaxer and I topped it off with a Pecker Wrecker beer. I felt great that night. Most nights it only took 3-4 beers to feel right.

I can't remember where I was, but I had some drinks after dinner at a higher altitude and my nose started bleeding. Thinking I was going to die, I drank more.. the following morning I had the worst hangover I have ever had.

When I go backpacking with someone that tells me that they get it, I give them antacids and aspirin or Ibuprofen every hour or so while we are ascending. I don't think it works but I knew a guy that swore by it. As far as I am concerned, even if it just taps in to a placebo effect, I'm okay with that! :D

maybe it's just me then.. sometimes I wake up in weird places and think... how the f did I get here? well, actually.. that hasn't happened since I started my 20 step program. As long as I am 20 steps or less away from my tent, I can always make it home before passing out.. :p
