LOL, it is about time I got the 4runner registered. I hate going to the tax office, but since it is almost road worthy I'll be getting it done sometime soon. Now if I can just track down the deadbeat that sold it to me.

Purchase amount doesn't matter, I learned that the hard way. You could pay $2 for a brand new Cadillac but you're paying taxes on the full amount! That changed a while ago.

Depends on how old the vehicle is. Older vehicles you can fudge that number.

At that time I was trying to transfer a 10 year old car... I've been retold the same thing several times.

That's insane, even a close dealer friend of mine told me that the "gift" deal doesn't work anymore. I wonder what the "eligibility" requirements are.

They go off of blue book value when you do a title swap.

Lucky for me, the 4runner is 25 years old this year. I am also thinking I can register it as an antique.

yep.. when I registered Clyde it was 25 as well. This next go-around will be a "Even-trade vehicles" deal.. so I won't be paying tax. At least I better not be.

Did you get antique plates for Clyde? I have been told that with antique plates you do not have to pass inspection?

I'm sure those cocksuckers at the DMV will say something.. its can't be an even trade because one vehicle is an 85 and one is a 91. I'll have to show them pictures of the sheetmetal. LOL

The DMV site used to allow you to plug in the make/model and year and they would tell you the tax... now it seems you have to know the VIN. BS! Anyhow, KBB states that Private Party value is $1000, trade in value is $700.

Yeah they just changed the rules a few years ago, I bought a 86 3/4 ton about 5-6 yrs ago, I paid $3400 for it and I know they did BB then when I swapped the title.
