Just a note... I've been happy with my Dometic and I'm sure we all know that they build the ARB units too. I like the dual zones and the way the lid opens.
+1 for the Dometic. It has been one of the best pieces of gear I have bought.
Yes I know the fridge coolers are nice, I have an ARB unit like Sean's, but it is permanently a freezer now, it will not adjust to desired temps and I have been using other Dometic Fridges for many years, they use them in RV's, duh... eventually I plan on replacing my ARB with a Dometic CFX3 75qt dual zone, waiting for a sale, but that is not what currently I need.

I have been wanting to buy a few ice bricks, probably 4 or 5 of 5lb size.
I changed over to ice packs a couple years ago, but now I need a good cooler. My $14 K-Mart special has served it's purpose for a few years and is now steps away from becoming a fish cooler.
Been eyeing up Kong. They are made in the USA and have a what I think is superior design and from the looks engineering. They have some of the longest ice retention testing times as well.
I will look into those. It appears there are several brands that are very comparable or same results to the YETI brand when it comes to ice retention/temperatures over time.
I have some of those CoolerShock icepacks for my soft sided cooler. They're awesome!
^thanks
Like any trip, having the right gear is essential.
A 65lb Dometic fridge(empty weight) is something
I do not want to unload and load every 4 days in the back of my truck.
I will be purchasing rotor plex type cooler that is at-least half the weight of that Dometic cooler and I need a cooler that can take the abuse, even on a boat.
So I have been researching the different types of ice bricks/packs, and which ones preform the best, the plan is to buy 4 or 5 ice packs/bricks.
