Yeah, I think mine is drawing more amps than before. I need to clean off my solar panels to make sure. Hopefully its a simple fix.

I changed over to ice packs a couple years ago, but now I need a good cooler. My $14 K-Mart special has served it's purpose for a few years and is now steps away from becoming a fish cooler.

Been eyeing up Kong. They are made in the USA and have a what I think is superior design and from the looks engineering. They have some of the longest ice retention testing times as well.

Just a note... I've been happy with my Dometic and I'm sure we all know that they build the ARB units too. I like the dual zones and the way the lid opens. :)

+1 for the Dometic. It has been one of the best pieces of gear I have bought.

You need a bigger ARB.

Yes I know the fridge coolers are nice, I have an ARB unit like Sean's, but it is permanently a freezer now, it will not adjust to desired temps and I have been using other Dometic Fridges for many years, they use them in RV's, duh... eventually I plan on replacing my ARB with a Dometic CFX3 75qt dual zone, waiting for a sale, but that is not what currently I need.

I have been wanting to buy a few ice bricks, probably 4 or 5 of 5lb size.

I will look into those. It appears there are several brands that are very comparable or same results to the YETI brand when it comes to ice retention/temperatures over time.

I have some of those CoolerShock icepacks for my soft sided cooler. They're awesome!
^thanks

Like any trip, having the right gear is essential.
A 65lb Dometic fridge(empty weight) is something I do not want to unload and load every 4 days in the back of my truck.
I will be purchasing rotor plex type cooler that is at-least half the weight of that Dometic cooler and I need a cooler that can take the abuse, even on a boat.

So I have been researching the different types of ice bricks/packs, and which ones preform the best, the plan is to buy 4 or 5 ice packs/bricks.

I bought one of each back in the day for testing.... then was going to get more based on the results. They all suck except for the last item and that pack is so small they are kinda useless.

Let me know how you make out. I still have all the ones above and still use them but all the dark blue ones bulge badly no matter how I try to freeze them.

The Large bags of Cooler Shock Zero and the Engel Coolers 20F Degree Hard Shell seem to be the top two products.

Yeah I like the large Coolershock with the fill cap, not the zipper.

Yeah those look great! I need a better softsided cooler. My WalMart one is kinda shitty.. but still works. I was looking at Bison, made in the USA.. about 1/2 the price of a Yeti (still not cheap).

Bison 24 Can XD Series - SoftPak Cooler Bag

I had a Bison 75qt cooler up u til last year. It was awesome. It held ice better than my Yeti ever did. But it wasnt as rugged. It didnt feel like it would stand up to nearly as much as the Yeti would. I'll probably buy another Bison when I'm back in the market.

As far as Rotomolded coolers go... I still love my Pelicans. Don't use them often (things are heavy) but they are built like a tank.
