Like dejavu or better yet groundhog day ....we have already debated this topic to death and pretty sure none of us will waiver.

I was just posting observations. Not here to stir it up

oh, I'm stirring. Just in one of those moods.

I was firmly in the cooler side of the camp....until I wasn't. Now, it's hard to look back. My office beer fridge is providing me with perfectly cold beer and no water dripping out. No cleanup and airing out after use, etc.

Mine lasted 10 and had at the very least 7-3 week long trips where I NEVER needed to get ice - or even be near what is commonly mis-named, "civilization."

And here comes groundhog day...... anyone else want to support electric refrigerators in cars as a good idea so I don't have to keep replying with the same comments I made last year lol?

Btw - this is a camping thread. Soooooo sorry I updated my review in the right place so I could get attacked by car campers with roof top tents who cant picture actual camping not car camping. 99% of the spots I go to you cant even drive a truck onsite so....they are pointless like this retarded debate.

How do you lug those heavy coolers with ice to those 99% of spots? :stick:

Yeah, no way am I even taking my Pelican cooler even out of the bed of the truck once its loaded up! Thing is 37 lbs empty. Its as useful as a fridge when it comes to taking it backpack camping. So the point you can take it places that are not car camping is moot.

tex

That's Mr Asshole to you
Ice chest and fridge both have their place, and both have pros and cons. I would rather put deer quarters or dead fish in an ice chest instead of a truck fridge.
But with 2 people you can carry a fridge and a battery pack next to the camp site for easy to reach cold beer.

Coolers definitely have their place, and I would like to have a larger one than what I got currently. That said, I don't use the one I have currently very often.

We had a birthday party for my 3 year old last month. The cooler full of ice was perfect for holding drinks. I don't think the fridge would have kept cold being opened that often.

The flip side of that though is the last Arkansas run. We were only out there for like 3 days and by the end of it my food was swimming in the cooler. @tex and @balakay both had cold beer and dry food. That was kind of what sold me on the fridge. On the plus side, I had ice to use in my whiskey.

As for the camping aspect, I have 3 small kids. Long hikes to primitive campsites isn't happening anytime soon.

I use a cooler (20 qt pelican or a 20 qt soft side) when we take the wifes SUV or my Ferd to the inlaws for the day and I want to keep beer cold. :)

Allowing ice to melt is the cause of our Climate Change issues. Can't you guys see! Refrigerators are a source of renewable energy. If you are using ice and not wearing a mask, you are selfish.

You put one foot in front of the other. Reward without work or risk is hollow to me. Add both and that's a good time lol

We also have the most dense pop of black bears in North America so you'd have to be very ignorant to put your food anywhere near your camp.

That's partially why we all do multiple coolers (alcohol is prohibited in nj). Always have for as long as I can remember. Beer cooler is for carrying around in a kayak or by the fire pit. Home base (car/truck/etc.) has the big coolers with extra ice and beer that you restock it with. Beer never mixed with food.

Anything that helps people get out to nature I'm all for. Be it a million dollar glamper or a 30k truck w 5k+ in accessories like most of us own.

Fridges have their uses. Coolers have their uses. It's like the conversation I had with a guy about RTTs. There's no one size fits all solution. Different trips call for different setups. That being said, I don't currently own a fridge and haven't really missed it as I haven't needed one lately. But when we had our hunting lease by Fredericksburg, a fridge would have been such a nice luxury being as we were over an hour from the closest place that sold ice. Luckily most of hunting season is cool enough to not worry about it but summer work days and bow season we usually had to make a trip to town if we were there more than 3 days or so.
