Picked up a new pointy sticky cutty thing. Benchmade Saddle Mountain fixed blade. Pretty sure I have some orange para cord to make a small lanyard for it.

That’s a good looking knife. I need a new fixed blade. Just never was impressed with my Benchmade stuff. I’ll probably go with another Esee.

I have not been disappointed in my Benchmade stuff, I've got a couple over 20 years old. This is a nice little knife, I like my DPX Gear blades better but they are also larger.

I have seen that knife online and like the blade shape, but don't really have a need for another knife.

Hey... want to get a temp ban? Keep talking like "don't really have a need" and find out. If logic and reason made these decisions then half the internet would not exist.

After I typed that post I pulled that knife up and almost ordered it. It's currently in my cart.

Finally decided to test out my Joolca HotTap. It works awesome. I know its hot out but it turned tap water into something you didn't want to touch in seconds! It can get hot! Its a jumble of hoses at the moment, just checking everything out. That portable rain barrel worked great as a water source. The drain connected right to the Joolca hose. But it did leak a bit at the fitting in the barrel, needs some teflon tape and a bit more oomph to get it tightened. I used my Ecoflow as the power source for the pump and it was pulling between 25 and 44 watts depending on which hose attachment I was using. I picked up that hose real and it worked great, it also has the same fittings as the Joolca stuff. I will be looking for a better storage solution, the blue tub it came in is not durable at all.

Picked up a couple Apache cases (3800 & 4800) from HF. Don't have an exact plan on what to put in them but I know I can figure something out. The quality is pretty nice for the price. That is a Pelican 1500 behind them. Its been around for about 14 years and still going strong. Just looks like shit. lol

Picked up a couple Nanuk hard cases, made in Canukistan, pretty nice stuff. I am using the 940 to house my Joolca Hottap. I didn't feel like spending $80+ on their mount so I made my own that attaches to the mounts for a lid organizer. I don't think the mounting spots will be strong enough and I'll need to drill holes through the lid and bolt it in. If I do I'll probably move the heater up on the lid for a bit more room on the bottom. But for now it works while I am in the design phase. I am awaiting some 90 degree fittings for the water and gas lines. As it is now connecting the water hoses is tight and the gas line will not connect. I think I will also install the pump in the case and have it permanently plumbed. We'll see how much room I have. I'll also add a heat deflector to the top that prevents the lid from melting. The second Nanuk case, a 918, has other uses but they also stem around water. I had started on the project about 3 weeks ago but I have been waiting for the new case. They sent me the wrong color twice!

Work on the Nanuk 918 is coming along. It's purpose is to be a water filtration setup. It goes from the inlet hose through the side of the case and to the pump, then to a sediment filter, then to a carbon block filter, then to a UV filter and then out the side of the case to a container. I am waiting on some 3/8 OD flexible water line to finish it up. I still need to connect the pump to the sediment filter and then the sediment filter to the carbon filter. But other than that it's ready. The plan is to take some pond water and getting it tested before and after filtration... just to be sure it works. But the system uses a Milwaukee M18 battery as power, up converts to 24v for the UV filter and down converts to 12v for the lights and the pump. It should produce about a gallon per minute which is plenty since its not meant to provide water for a shower or something. Just to refill a jerry can or similar. It will use the same QD fittings as my Joolca water heater setup uses... so the hoses for one can work with both. So with any luck and the delivery Gods on my side... this should be done tomorrow. Well aside from a mesh bag that I plan to attach to the inside of the lid to store the various fittings it uses on the outside connections... the spigot caps and the QD connectors.

Ok, made a couple changes to the water filter setup. 1st I swapped out the water pump. The one I had was not adjustable for PSI, and it just pumped too many GPM. Even though the box said 1.3 GPM it was at least 2. I want the water to go through the UV filter a little slower so it has more time to do its thing. The new one I picked up is adjustable for pressure and I dialed it down quite a bit. Secondly I added stainless clamps on both sides of the pump. Previously I only had them on the pressure side but I discovered that it was sucking a small amount of air from the feed side and over time it was causing the filter housing to fill with air. So with the new pump in place and clamps installed I did a fill test, it took just a little over 5 minutes to fill a 5 gallon container. Ran the pump long enough to cycle close to 20 gallons of water and used 1 "bar" off the Milwaukee 5AH M18 battery, also had the lights on which don't really draw shit. I do have a slight leak on the input side of the first filter housing, not enough to worry about. It made a "puddle" the size of a 50 cent piece after a 5 gallon transfer. I may seal it up with some silicone later. Not enough to give a shit at the moment. I also picked up 4 water test kits which will test for bacteria to EPA standards, each test takes 48 hours to complete. Now to get some nasty water to test with.

I was looking on Temu and they had a knife which looked a lot like the Benchmade I bought. For $21 I gave it a shot. I must say.... for $21... its one of the best knifes I own. You would be hard pressed to tell it apart from the Benchmade. I've sure under a microscope you could analyze the blade material and see a difference. But if I beat on it or break it.... who cares.. $21. Also, it came with the belt attachment, I had to buy one for the Benchmade. Note that Benchmade does make a smaller version of the knife I bought and it looks identical to the Temu knife. The smaller version Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter Knife Richlite - Blade HQ

I bought this knife a while back. I really like it but was not a fan of the tan on the blade and the grips are not the greatest. Anyhow, picked up some paint stripped and some new grips... I like it much better. I am thinking about trying to do the "boil it in vinegar" routine to turn the blade darker. I need to get some more vinegar though.
